Last night, the team assembled in Aberaeron to undertake rope rescue training, with a focus on casualty stretcher recovery techniques. The session concentrated on safely manoeuvring and repositioning a stretcher during recoveries, particularly when navigating challenging terrain such as overhangs and gullies. This valuable training helps ensure our crews remain prepared to carry out complex rescues safely and effectively.

New Quay Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked yesterday at 13:28 to assist Dyfed-Powys Police with a large‑scale multi‑agency search operation.

The team were deployed to conduct a coastal search from New Quay to Llanrhystud.

Agencies involved included:

HM Coastguard Aberystwyth

HM Coastguard Borth

Aberystwyth RNLI

New Quay Lifeboat station

Barmouth Lifeboat

Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust

North Wales Police

In addition, Coastguard aeronautical assets were deployed, including Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 336 from Caernarfon and a HM Coastguard fixed‑wing aircraft from Newquay, Cornwall.

The team were stood down at approximately 19:00 and returned to station.

Our team’s newest recruits, Dominic and Ryan, undertook their first Local Knowledge Patrol this morning, visiting key access points to coastal locations between New Quay and Llangrannog.

A great start to their operational development and familiarisation with our patch.

The team has so far responded to three incidents this week:

19:52 – Monday 20/07/2026
Tasked alongside HM Coastguard - Teifi to assist Dyfed-Powys Police at New Quay. The team was stood down en route as the matter was successfully resolved.

20:36 – Wednesday 22/07/2026
Tasked to reports of persons on the cliff at Aberaeron. The team arrived quickly, located the individuals, assisted them to a safe location and provided safety advice.

17:57 – Thursday 23/07/2026
Tasked together with New Quay Lifeboat station vessel aground at Treathgwyn, New Quay. New Quay RNLI were swiftly on scene, ensured the crew were taken to a safe location and secured the vessel.

Yesterday at 21:00 we were paged to assist New Quay Lifeboat station who were tasked to reports of paddle boarders in trouble in Aberaeron. All teams were stood down prior to leaving station.
