This morning at 3.40am our team was tasked to a car stuck on the beach at with people inside. Fortunately high tide was not due in for another couple of hours and the vehicle was stuck just out of the high tide mark easing the risk for recovery. With a little advise and some persuasion, the car was able to move off the sand without the need for a full recovery and the owner was able to stand them down.

🏖️ 🚗 🚨

Vehicles should not be driven on the beach unless prior authorisation has been given by the local authorities. In the event of a vehicle being stuck on the coast, your own private recovery must be organised and the coastguard informed.

During this evenings local knowledge patrol, our team came across a substance washed in on the shore at St Mary’s Bay. The substance is believed to be palm oil and has been bagged ready for the Enviroment Agency to collect and sample.

🚨 🐶 ⚠️

We are advising dog walkers to stay away from this particular area in case it is palm oil, as this can be poisonous to dogs. 🐶

Today our team was tasked to a vehicle in the water at Greatstone near Romney Sands at around 10.00am.

🚗 🌊 🚫

We attended this along side Kent Police where we assessed the car that had got stuck in the mud, no causalities were found on scene. We remained on scene for around 7 hours whilst Kent Police arranged the recovery, unfortunately the recovery was unsuccessful today but tomorrow it will be tried again by the recovery team. We will monitor the situation including pollution until the vehicle is recovered.

🚓 👮‍♂️ 🌱 ❗️

We must point out the Dunes @ in which this vehicle drove over to get to the beach, are protected and provide a unique habitat for plants and animals. Driving over these dunes and damaging them constitutes a criminal offence. This is not the first time this vehicle has been reported in doing so and Kent Police are now investigating the owner of this vehicle.

Today we have honoured and remembered. We attended the remembrance service held this morning at St Nicholas Church to pay our respects.

Remembrance: Lives were turned upside down when Britain declared war on Germany in 1914 and as part of the Admiralty’s naval reserve, it was just a matter of hours before coastguards joined the Navy ships.

This wartime experience proved that a coast watching force was vital. And on 1 April 1923, the Board of Trade took responsibility for the coastguard. By Royal sanction the force retained the title of His Majesty’s Coastguard. This was the first time Britain had a specialised organisation devoted to coast watching and life saving.

The Coastguard Service Act of 1925 still allowed the Admiralty to control the Coastguard in time of national need. In May 1939, that happened as World War II approached and 4,500 Auxiliary Coastguards were recruited on National Service, in time for the start of war in September.

The tragedies of the World Wars affected everyone and HM Coastguard remembers all those whose lives were lost. ❤️

This afternoon we were tasked to a missing child at Dymchurch after parents alerted the local beach patrol. Within a short period of time of the search beginning, another member of public had called emergency services to a found child matching the same description. Our coastguard teams were then able to swiftly reunite the found child with their parents.

🚨 🌊 🛟

We were then retasked this evening to a report of two kayakers that had not returned at Fisherman’s Beach in Hythe, Kent. Once coastguard teams arrived on scene, we were quickly able to establish the kayakers were heading inshore and were in fact experienced kayakers who were safe and well.
