Please note: pegs 7, 8 and 9 are out of action on the river for the next few days due to cracked willows. Willows are known for their soft and brittle bark so it is always a danger with windy days but Mat was on it bright and early this morning. Please make sure if you are walking dogs that you keep to the public footpath side instead of the bank side for the next couple of days.

A quick little update of what has been happening - Mat has built and installed a new section to stop cars driving down to the family and friends section. The gap is wider than the public footpath that runs over the private land so is still plenty accessible for mobility scooters, wheelchairs, pushchairs etc. We are struggling with some of the authorities for the gates that we wanted to stop the motorbikes and quads but it should stop the worries people had about cars driving down this section and churning it up when we get back to the sludgier parts of the year.

The breeding pond was dug out when the water was low... aaaand we underestimated it πŸ™ˆ. So we've used the extra tonnes of mud that we had to raise the surround, built a fence around to protect it. Some more struts in the middle and covering to protect from the inevitable willow falls, and that will be complete too.

Our geese visitors have disappeared, the swans are still coming on the river and the lakes though.

We have lots of deer activity around the lakes on the wildlife cameras and seen in the evenings.

Harry, Max and Digby have been great helping hands over the last couple of weeks. Digby is currently working on his DofE award so being at land will count towards that too :).

And Mat went and landed himself a 16lb 8oz Trent carp once it had cooled down in the evening.

Another busy week down for us down at The Willows. Our Mat has done lots of maintenance, put in a new gate with an actual hold for keeping open, been trimming the trees above the higher river pegs for easier casting, more w**d removal and bank management etc.

Mat and Addison had a session on the river - Mat caught 11 barbel up to 12lb 8. Addison was targeting carp.

Paul is a bream angler and caught a stinking (that was stonking but autocorrect is not wrong) 59lb worth from Peg 20 today. Look at that smile!

The lake is really busy with activity, lots of carp around the islands (pegs 4-6).

We're loving the catch pictures you send in, keep them coming 🐟🎣

Great way to spend a Saturday. Thank you for sharing these pictures 🐟

Just the one on the lake today but another big old bream. This time from peg 3 as the sun went to shade the peg and it cooled down. Again sweetcorn and a float rod doing the work.

So the lake has started producing fish after spawning season has ended and there up are bream. Caught on sweet corn and float rods by myself and David Jackson in the village who has fished these lakes since they were created. He also shared many stories of having to go find his son in an evening who just wanted that one more cast!

Starting today there is a bounty on our big carp in the south lake.
Land something over 20lb (and there's a few in there) send us your catch report on our Swimbooker page including pictures of it on the scales and you could be in with a chance of winning a Β£30 gift card for your local tackle shop (including angling direct)

The boys have been busy in the sun out with the boat and rake dragging w**d out of the water with the digger bucket - by God does it stink! There was quite a bit done last summer, the boys are doing it and we have some other gents coming to help because there is a hell of a lot but it has been years of build up through lack of substantial maintenance that needs getting rid of so will be a big job for all involved. All the gasses that the rotting releases in the water aren't any help to us for water quality.

The tractor was in use elsewhere so we got the ride on mower up at the land too to get some of the nettles and grass cut down, it isn't as fun as the tractor but it does pretty impressive donuts at speed πŸ₯³πŸ˜…πŸ€£.

We're sat in traffic on the M3, Addison and Cat have much better views at the lake. The water level is finally dropping again. Another dry week would be nice to have all the platforms back out the water fully🀞
