Tonight at 8pm on BBC Two, our local heroes take centre stage on Saving Lives at Sea (Series 11, Episode 3). When three children find themselves swept out to sea in a small inflatable dinghy off the coast of Lynemouth, the volunteer crew at Newbiggin Lifeboat Station drop everything to answer the call. What follows is a high-stakes race against the tide and time—a powerful, edge-of-your-seat reminder of just how fast a calm day on the water can turn into an emergency.

Every single week, these men and women leave their jobs, families, and warm beds at a moment’s notice. They step into harsh conditions, driven by pure courage, dedication, and a commitment to keeping our community safe. Tonight, the rest of the UK gets a front-row seat to the skill, selflessness, and sheer grit that define our local crew.

There are still spaces available for our free Shorebirds for Beginners guided walk along East Sea Sands at Newbiggin this Thursday! 🐥

It's such an exciting time of year to be out on the coast watching the birds as autumn migration is in full swing - you just never know what we will see!

No experience required, and binoculars are provided if you don't have your own. We will also have our telescopes to use on the day for even closer views of the birds 🔭

Hot drinks vouchers are kindly provided by Newbiggin Maritime Centre for after the walk ☕

Newbiggin by the Sea Town Council

At a meeting of the Finance & HR Committee held on 15th July 2026, members considered a grant request from Newbiggin SA.

Members unanimously agreed to the request of £300. This will cover costs of heating, lighting and cooking to support Newbiggin Learning Hive, who will be using the Community Hall in Vernon Place as a venue for their initiative. This will allow children to be educated within a safe environment as well as receive a free meal.

Cllr Jan Casey, Chair of Newbiggin by the Sea, had the pleasure of presenting the cheque on behalf of Newbiggin Town Council.

Newbiggin Salvation Army is situated at Vernon Place, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.
