♻️ Mini Recycling Centres

Our Mini Recycling Centres are located across West Berkshire and provide a convenient way to recycle additional materials such as juice cartons (tetra paks), and small electrical items.

They’re there to help you:
✅ Recycle some materials which we currently don't collect from the kerbside
✅ Recycle excess recyclable materials

Please remember these sites are for recycling only. Leaving waste or bulky items at these locations is classed as fly-tipping, which is a criminal offence.

👑 ⚽ It’s coming home… in sandwich form 🥪

Whether you’ll be cheering England tonight, this England-inspired classic is a winning way to use up leftover chicken 🍗, turning post-match extras into tomorrow’s easy lunch ✅

Mix leftover chicken (or chickpeas) 🌱 with mayo, curry powder, coriander and raisins, then pile it into your favourite bread 🍞 for a royally good sandwich 👑

Not a fan of raisins? Leave them out 👍

Swap the protein, adjust the spice level, or use whatever bread you have on hand
The best leftover recipes are the ones that work with what’s already in your kitchen 🏡

Every meal saved helps reduce food waste ♻️ and makes the most of the food you’ve already bought 💷

Refusing single-use plastics can be as simple as choosing to refill instead

From water bottles and coffee cups to cleaning products and toiletries, more shops are offering refill options to help cut down on waste.
✅ Bring your own bottle or container
✅ Refill instead of buying new
✅ Reduce waste at the source

Refilling helps keep materials in use for longer and reduces the amount of waste that needs to be managed or recycled.

🚯 Littering is for losers

Don’t let others pick up after you.
Littering might seem like a small thing, but it has a big impact. It harms wildlife, spoils our environment, and takes time and money to clean up.

We all have a part to play:
✅ Take your litter home
✅ Use a bin where available
✅ Help keep West Berkshire clean and tidy

🔋 Don’t bin your v**es

Did you know that 47% of va**rs don’t realise they can recycle their v**es?

Despite the single-use v**e ban introduced on 1 June 2025, millions are still being thrown away incorrectly. Around 9 million v**es and pods are bought each week in the UK, and over 6 million end up in bins instead of being recycled.

This matters because v**es contain batteries. When they’re put in bins, they can be crushed in collection vehicles or at recycling centres, leading to fires.

What you should do instead:
✅ Never put v**es in litter bins, household bins or your home recycling containers
✅ Use local v**e recycling bins or drop-off points (often found where you bought your v**e)
✅ Take them to one of our household waste recycling centres.

A small action can help prevent fires, protect crews, and recover valuable materials.

⚽ World Cup 2026 is here… and we’re here to help you recycle more.

If you’re enjoying the match later with friends and family, you may notice a bit more packaging at home.

Don’t forget you can place the following pre-sorted in your recycling containers:
♻️ Plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and tubes
🥫 Tins, cans and aerosols
🍾 Glass bottles and jars (lids can be left on)
📃Paper and cardboard

Cartons such as Tetra Paks can be taken to mini recycling centres- westberks.gov.uk/minirecyclingcentres

Foil can be recycled at dedicated bins at our Household Waste Recycling Centres. Don’t forget to book an appointment before you visit which can be done here: www.westberks.gov.uk/clickandtip

⚽ Are you ready for Mexico v South Africa tomorrow?

It’s been 4 years but the world cup returns tomorrow with Mexico v South Africa kicking off at 8pm (GMT).

Don’t forget to recycle your glass when you’re clearing up.

In the green box you can recycle:
♻️ Glass bottles
♻️ Glass jars
♻️Perfume bottles

Lids can be left on bottles and jars but please make sure jars are rinsed to remove any food residue.

Please don’t include:
❌ Window or greenhouse glass
❌ Broken glass
❌ Pyrex and drinking glasses
❌ Light bulbs

Recycling glass helps save energy and means it can be made into new bottles and jars again and again.

A quick rinse and sort makes all the difference.

♻️ Don’t forget… aerosols can be recycled

Aerosols are often missed, but they can go in your recycling bag as long as they’re empty.

✅ Deodorant, air freshener and shaving foam cans
✅ Empty and ready to go in your recycling

🚫 Please don’t include:
❌ Part-full aerosols
❌ Aerosols marked with a hazard symbol (these should be taken to a
Household Waste Recycling Centre)
Recycling aerosols helps recover valuable metals that can be used again and again.

A quick check before putting your recycling out can make a real difference.
