The Knutton and Silverdale Ward (Butt Lane Ward) has a population of 4,313 (2011 census) and located 1 mile NW of Newcastle Town Centre. Knutton Village has been a settlement since the publication of the Doomsday book in 1086 where it apears as ‘Clotone'. One tradition is that Knutton was named after King Canute, ‘Cnut’s town’.
