It is utterly disgraceful to see political opponents trying to score points over someone being taken into hospital.

My ward colleague was unable to attend the election count due to a genuine medical emergency. At a time when she should be focused on her health and recovery, certain individuals have chosen instead to attack and mock her absence for political gain.

Politics should never come before basic humanity and decency. We can disagree strongly on policy and campaigning, but there has to be a line. Personal health matters are not a political weapon.

She has worked tirelessly for residents in our ward and deserves support and compassion not cheap shots from the opposition.

I wish her a full and speedy recovery.

We’ve seen the concerns about the proposed charges for Festival Cottages Community Room—and let’s be clear: as your local councillors, we fought this, and the charge has been stopped.

This proposal would have hit older residents and community groups hardest, risking the loss of vital activities that tackle loneliness and support wellbeing. It was wrong, and we took action alongside residents to make sure it didn’t go ahead.

This is what Labour councillors do. We don’t stand by while services are put at risk—we stand up, we organise, and we deliver results for our communities. We believe community spaces should be protected, not priced out of reach.

The difference is clear: when Labour represents you, we fight for you—and we win.

Thank you to everyone who spoke up and stood with us. We’ll keep working every day to protect the services our community depends on.

Joan Walker and Labour this Thursday to keep moving our community forward. (Steve, Tracy and Joan)
