Patient feedback plays an important role in helping us understand people's experiences of our services.

When someone calls 999 and needs to go to hospital, ambulance crews assess the patient and provide treatment before safely transporting them for further care 🚑

In April, 97.7% of patients who were taken to hospital by ambulance reported a good or very good experience, based on 470 responses.
💬 One patient said: "The operator remained calm and reassuring in asking appropriate questions as part of the triage assessment whilst providing relevant advice. The ambulance crew were very reassuring, listened to patients views and were very respectful."

Thank you to our ambulance crews and emergency operations centre teams who respond to life-threatening emergencies across the region.

When you hear sirens or see blue lights, it can be stressful - especially in busy traffic 🚗

The safest thing to do is slow down, stay predictable, and move left when it's safe. Sudden braking, mounting pavements, or pulling into junctions can make it harder for crews to pass safely, and may accidentally cause harm to yourself, other drivers, or pedestrians.

🚑 If an ambulance stops behind you, it may be waiting for a safe gap rather than asking you to move. Giving space and avoiding last-second decisions helps everyone.

Clear, calm driving helps crews reach patients safely, and helps you get on with your journey without added risk.

It's Learning Disability Week 2026. The theme for this year is "Do you see me?" which is all about people with a learning disability being seen, heard and valued.

More than 90% of NEAS staff have now completed Learning Disability and Autism training, helping ensure that when people need urgent or emergency care, ambulance crews better understand their needs, communicate more effectively and tailor their response to the individual. Early CPR and defibrillation can more than double the chance of cardiac arrest survival 2 , yet simple issues like flat batteries or expired pads can stop a defib from working and making a difference when it matters most.

This Check Your Defib Week (15-21 June) we're encouraging all defib Guardians to ensure their device is working and accurately listed on The Circuit. It could help save lives.

Not a defib Guardian? You can still take part in Check Your Defib Week by using DefibFinder to locate your nearest defibrillator so you are familiar with the location.

Good morning from NEAS 🚑📞💚

Our emergency teams are already supporting patients across the region today, responding to life-threatening emergencies and urgent calls for help.

If you need health advice or treatment and it's not a life-threatening emergency, there are simple ways to get the right care without calling 999:

📱 NHS App: manage repeat prescriptions, check symptoms, view appointments and access trusted NHS advice from your phone.👉 https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/
💻 NHS 111 online: for medical advice when it's not life-threatening - check your symptoms and get directed to the right service 👉 https://111.nhs.uk
💊Your local pharmacy, GP, or dentist: for common illnesses, medication advice, minor infections and ongoing health concerns - pharmacists are highly trained clinicians who can assess and treat many everyday conditions without an appointment.👉 https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/services-near-you/
🚑 If it is not a life-threatening emergency, please do not call 999.999 is for serious conditions such as cardiac arrest, breathing difficulties, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, or when someone's life is at immediate risk.

Choosing the right service helps our emergency teams reach the sickest patients faster. Thank you for looking out for your community and for helping us keep emergency care available for those who truly need it most.

Hearing from patients helps us understand what matters most to the people who use our services.
NHS 111 is a telephone service where patients can get advice and support from trained health advisors and clinicians 📞

In April, 79.1% of patients reported a good or very good experience when contacting NHS 111, based on 406 responses.

💬 One patient shared: "The operator listened carefully and made a swift appointment which helped to resolve my medical issues in one visit. NHS staff are the best."

Thank you to our NHS 111 teams who support patients across the North East every day.
