When you foster with your local council, you:
💛 Join a big community of foster carers who live nearby
💛 Receive training and support close to home
💛 Support and care for children from your local area
💛 Can join a Mockingbird Hub and form a tight-knit constellation

Foster with North East work with us to support you through your application with training and the fostering buddy system.

As Sharon explains, if you work in healthcare, the skills you use every day will give you a head start in fostering:

🌈 This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the incredible LGBTQ+ people in our fostering community.

Meet Gavin and Stefan, who foster for Newcastle City Council.

From adopting their own children to fostering, they’ve seen first-hand the life-changing impact a loving home can have—and wanted to give that to other children too.

Their experience as part of the LGBTQ+ community has helped them bring empathy and understanding to the children they care for.

For Gavin and Stefan, fostering is simple: giving a child the best possible start in life.

If you’re LGBTQ+ and thinking about fostering, we’d love to chat.

You don’t need to do it all the time for it to be a time that really matters.

Some foster carers are approved to take children for short breaks during weekends or school holidays.

By opening your home and offering your care, even for:
🧡 One night
🧡 A weekend
🧡 A week
🧡 Or a few months — you could be someone’s rock.

Full training is provided - you don't need any specialist qualifications.

💗 Join us at the Metrocentre this Foster Care Fortnight 💗

On Saturday 23 May, 10am–4pm, Foster with North East and Smooth Radio will be at the Metrocentre for a special Foster Care Fortnight event, and you're invited!

Come along to try the Rock Hero Challenge, see if you can make the leader board, and meet local fostering teams and foster carers for relaxed, no‑pressure conversations about what fostering is really like.

You can also show your support as our team takes on a 70,000‑step fostering walk, representing the number of children currently in care.

GLL centres across the city offer discounted rates for anyone who fosters for Newcastle City Council. Carers can show their ID badges at the below locations to receive this offer.

This is fostering 👏

Yesterday we held our third annual celebration of foster carers for foster care fortnight. This has become a highlight of the calendar as we get to look back some of the amazing things that our fostering families have done together, and treat our carers to an afternoon tea 🫖

Thanks to all of our foster carers and children who joined us for a very special day 💙 ♥️
