This week at the Library:
Friday morning, 10-11am - EPiC community drop in session

Friday 1pm through to Saturday 1pm - Readathon! A non stop 24 hour reading relay. The Library will be open all day and through the night. Raising money for the National Literacy Trust and for the Library.

There is just one week to go until the Readathon. Plans are going well.
Will you be able to join us - whether as a reader or as part of the audience and support team?
If you do plan to read take a look at the SignUp rota. Currently 81/96 slots have been claimed but there are still 3 vacant daytime slots, 1 evening and the rest are in the magical wee small hours of Saturday morning between 1:30-5:30am.

The library is closing 30 minutes early today, Thursday 18 June, at 5:30pm to allow the volunteers to set up for an event this evening. We apologise for the inconvenience.

The Library challenge for May consisted of two Harry Potter themed word search puzzles - the and the . We received a lot of correctly completed entries. Five prize winners were drawn at random and the winners have now been contacted. Congratulations to Nayeema, Olivia, Megan, I and O

Start your summer reading journey - six reads, one summer. Pick up your free Reading Passport from the library during library hours.

Thursday, 6pm - Emergency Briefing film, followed by discussion on the impact of climate change. Booking essential via Eventbrite.

Readathon - our most ambitious event yet! Friday 26 June, 1pm until Saturday 27 June, 1pm - a non-stop reading relay - 96 readers, 15 minutes each, 24 hours in total.
If you prefer, share a reading slot with a friend or read as a family. Open to everybody - volunteers and library users, friends and family, all ages. Any book of your own choice. Any language.

How people can help:

Listen - We will need an audience to cheer our readers on. Call in at any point throughout the 24 hours, day or night, we’ll be there. You can even bring the dog!

96 library users and supporters are each going to read aloud for 15 minutes over a 24 hour period. We're inviting sponsorship from readers, friends and families.

This Thursday 18 June, 6pm.
Film screening and discussion with Newcastle University climate scientist Dr Hannah Bloomfield.
This film is being shown around the country to present factual information from scientists on the current situation regarding the climate emergency. There will be a post film discussion.
Booking essential. Spaces are limited.

(Please note that Library services will finish early at 5:30pm on Thursday to allow time to set up the room ready for this event.)
