The Lands of the Prince Bishops of Durham included Bedlingtonshire, Norhamshire and Islandshire (Farnes/Lindisfarne) all in what is now Northumberland but part of County Durham until 1844. Crayke (Craykeshire) in Yorkshire was also part of Durham until 1844. Other liberties (in Yorkshire) held by the bishops were Howdenshire and Allertonshire though these districts were not part of Durham itself. Pictured are the bishops' castles at Crayke in Yorkshire and Norham on Tweed in Northumberland. Also pictured is the gatehouse to the bishop's manor house at Howden and the impressive Howden Minster in Howdenshire More about this here https://englandsnortheast.co.uk/prince-bishops-durham/

Sadberge village, old capital of the former Viking settled district called the Wapentake of Sadberge, added to the County Palatine of Durham by Bishop Pudsey in the twelfth century. Queen Victoria was Empress of India and Countess of Sadberge. The Wapentake had included Hartlepool, Castle Eden, Great Stainton, Egglescliffe, Middleton St George and much of Teesdale north of the river but it didn't include Stockton or Darlington which had long been part of Durham before Pudsey's acquisition.
