🪖⭐️Joint Training Week with Northumbria ACF 🪖⭐️

Flight Sergeant Harrop and Flight Lieutenant Yarrow recently spent a week away training alongside our colleagues from Northumbria Army Cadet Force (ACF).

The week provided an excellent opportunity for joint training, learning new skills, and strengthening the relationship between the RAF Air Cadets and Army Cadet Force. Throughout the week, they took part in a wide range of activities, including:

• Fieldcraft
• Adventure Training
• First Aid
• Drill
• Navigation and Orientation
• Tent Building
• Air Rifle Training
• Leadership
• Climbing

The week was a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills, teamwork, leadership and confidence while experiencing training from another cadet organisation.

A huge thank you to Northumbria ACF for their support throughout the week!

Back to school (Sorry had to say it!).

September is an exciting time at RAF Air Cadets as the first day of term opens up applications to 12 year olds who are starting in Year 8.

Durham Northumberland Wing on the road!

Cadets from across the Wing came together to show members of the public at Newcastle Quayside what being an Air Cadet entails. As always cadets were impeccably turned out and acted with confidence and knowledge showing what RAFAC has to offer. Members of the public were encouraged to experience giving CPR, using the STEM kit, hearing from our glider pilots and making paper airplanes (which turned into a mini crèche at one stage with Cdt Wood keeping 12 under 5’s entertained for over 10 minutes!).

Stickers were handed out like entrance tickets by our Cadets including marking the Army’s Hang Tough frame as RAFAC Approved* 🤣

PROMOTION ALERT!!!

Congratulations to Flight Sergeant Harrop who was promoted this evening following a rigorous application and interview process to evaluate his knowledge on RAFAC, RAF, and leadership. This promotion also acknowledges his hard work on 131 sqn and dedication to the growth and success of City of Newcastle Squadron.

Using the Leadership kits purchased with our latest Air Cadet Charity grant 131 held its inaugural Blue Leadership sessions.

Cadets were taught the principles of RAFAC leadership and in teams set to task with a number of challenges.

Cadets attended two full day sessions during the week and created some innovative solutions to many of the challenges!

Introduction to Clay target shooting today for 3 of our cadets, congratulations to Cdt Meah, Cdt Henderson and Cdt Mungwadzi who all, despite this being their first time, took to the activity like they’ve done it before, taking out a number of targets and building their experience with a shotgun.

Sometimes the OC even gets out of the office 🤣 with 131 CivComm purchasing our first RPAS (drone) we were able to commence our first course of RPAS flying.

The course teaches the basics of drone legislation, safety and a load of practical skills as cadets master the controls across a series of exercises. When complete each cadet will also possess a CAA Flyer ID!

Here one of our cadets is performing precision manoeuvring in one of the first exercises. Can you spot the drone?
