☀️ *Stay safe today and into the weekend* ☀️

We’re gearing up for another very hot day, with the Red Heat Health Alert in place until 11pm tonight. Into the weekend there is a possibility of thundery downpours which could cause some flash flooding. Please take extra care, look out for others, and follow this key advice:

🧊 *Stay cool*
* Drink plenty of water
* Find shade during the hottest hours (11am–3pm)
* Keep your home cool – close curtains on sunny sides
* Avoid strenuous activity in the heat
* Check on vulnerable neighbours, older residents, and young children

🌊 *Heading to the coast to cool off?*
* Look for lifeguarded beaches
* Check tides and conditions before entering the water
* Avoid swimming alone
* Keep a close eye on children at all times

In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚗 *Travel and transport*
* Check journeys before you travel - severe weather can affect roads and rail services
* While hot carry water with you on public transport or in your car
* Expect delays and allow extra time where possible

Could the owner of this car parked on the access to Lewes Road recreation ground corner of Robinson Road/Elphick Road please move it. We couldn’t get down onto the field to water the very dry trees around the play area this morning, Many thanks 🌳🌳🌳

Mayor Mark was looking very smart with the Mayors Cadet on Saturday. The Sussex Charter with a fun new twist was read with audience call and response. It highlighted our community perfectly 👏

What a fantastic day! A big thank you to all of our vendors, artists, stalls and Workshop leaders who contributed to making this event a memorable one. Another big thank you to the Mayor and Mayors Cadet for reading the Sussex Charter. Last but not least...thank you to everybody that came and showed Newhavens strong community spirit! Weather is beautiful for The Big Sussex Day. We are here until 6pm, do pop along for live music, tasty food, plenty of bits and bobs to buy and Workshops to try.
