Yesterday, members of Newhaven Fire Station had the honour of attending a service to mark the 84th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid.

On 19 August 1942, thousands of Allied troops took part in the raid on Dieppe, France. The operation resulted in significant loss of life, with many more wounded or taken prisoner. While the raid was ultimately unsuccessful, the courage and sacrifice of those who took part provided important lessons for future Allied operations.

As a community with such strong links to the sea and the events of 1942, Newhaven has a special place in remembering those who served and sacrificed.

As part of the service, our crew were proud to lay a wreath on behalf of East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, paying our respects to all those who served, suffered and made the ultimate sacrifice.

It was a privilege to stand alongside veterans, serving personnel, local organisations and members of our community to pause, reflect and remember those who gave so much.

84 years on, we remember them.

🚒 🎉Our New Fort Road Fire Engineering Hub is Officially Open! 🔧🎉

We’re proud to announce the official opening of our new Fire Engineering Hub – a major investment in the future of Engineering at East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.

This purpose-built facility in Newhaven has been designed to help keep our operational fleet in peak condition, supporting our commitment to efficiency, financial sustainability and operational resilience.

The former Newhaven Fire Station has been completely transformed into a modern engineering facility.

🌱 Built with sustainability in mind

The Fire Engineering Hub is one of our most environmentally efficient buildings, featuring roof-mounted solar panels and ground source heat pumps to help reduce energy use and carbon emissions, supporting our wider environmental commitments.

This new hub represents an investment not only in our vehicles and equipment, but in the people who help keep our frontline services moving every day.

A huge thank you to everyone at High Cliff Academy, Newhaven, for giving the Newhaven ESFRS team such a warm welcome as we head into the summer holidays! ☀️🚒

It was fantastic to spend time with you all, talking about staying safe over the summer break and answering so many brilliant questions. We also had great fun with the water target challenge—there were some excellent firefighters in the making! 💦🎯
