On Thursday 15th October 2026, the Millers & Merchants Tour returns with an immersive day exploring the people, industries and stories that helped shape Newmilns. The experience includes a visit to MYB Textiles, an animated tour of Lamlash House taking you back to 1901, plus a light lunch along the way.

It’s a chance to discover the area’s rich heritage through the places, trades and everyday lives behind it, all brought together in one unique local experience.

Flashback to a Victorian Newmilns bank manager enjoying a day off.

Meet Robert Carmichael Mitchell.

He’s one of the characters you’ll encounter during the animated experience at Lamlash House — and here he is enjoying a summer trip to Largs.

On Thursday 15th October our Millers & Merchants Tour returns, taking you into the story of Newmilns at a time when the lace industry was thriving and the town’s mills and banks were all part of its busy commercial life.

The day begins at MYB Textiles, where you’ll discover the story of Ayrshire lace and see traditional manufacturing methods still in use today.

Then it’s on to Lamlash House, where history takes on a life of its own.

Over a three-course light lunch in the former banking hall, you’ll meet characters from the house’s past — including bank manager Robert Carmichael Mitchell — through our animated tour.

And as this picture suggests, there’s much more to their lives than ledgers and banking…

A look back to 14 August 2021 and a beautiful wedding morning at Lamlash House in Newmilns. 🤍

The hours before a wedding are always filled with so many special moments. The finishing touches, happy nerves, laughter with family and friends, and the excitement of everything that's still to come.

It's a privilege to see these memories unfold in a historic setting, and this morning was no exception.

The response to MacTraitors at Lamlash House has been incredible. Following exceptional demand for our October and November events, we're delighted to announce an additional festive date.

If you're looking for something different this Christmas, swap the traditional festive meal or drinks for an unforgettable evening of mystery, deception and exceptional food in the unique surroundings of Lamlash House.

Whether you're celebrating with friends, family or colleagues, MacTraitors is the perfect festive night out. Work together to complete secret missions, uncover hidden identities and discover who among you is secretly working against the group.

With only 24 places available, with almost half booked, we expect this exclusive festive event to sell quickly.

The response to MacTraitors at Lamlash House has genuinely blown us away.

Our first event sold out incredibly quickly. The second sold out in just 15 minutes, and when we released a third date, every seat was gone in just 5 minutes after the email landed.

To everyone who booked, joined the waiting list, shared our posts or got in touch about hosting a private MacTraitors experience – thank you.

It's amazing to see so many people excited about bringing something a little different to East Ayrshire, and we're incredibly grateful for the support.

For those lucky enough to have secured a place, we're looking forward to creating an unforgettable evening. With The Tentpeg Murderers bringing MacTraitors to life and the team at Lamlash House taking care of the hospitality, we're determined to make every experience live up to the excitement.

If you missed out, don't worry. We now have a waiting list in place, and we're also speaking with groups interested in hosting private MacTraitors events for friends, family or corporate gatherings.

Sometimes the stories behind our stained glass windows are just as special as the windows themselves.

Recently, we received a lovely message from a relative of Scottish poet Robert Tannahill, who had been visiting the Tannahill Cottage in Paisley. They had hoped to continue their journey to Lamlash House to see our stained glass portrait of their famous ancestor, but unfortunately their plans didn't quite work out this time.

We're delighted to share a photograph of the Robert Tannahill window, one of five remarkable stained glass portraits of Scotland's great poets that grace the staircase at Lamlash House.

Commissioned in 1888 from renowned Victorian stained glass artist Stephen Adam, the collection features Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott, Allan Ramsay, James Hogg and Robert Tannahill. These exceptional windows are recognised as being of national importance and are specifically included in Lamlash House's Category B listing by Historic Environment Scotland. They remain one of the finest surviving domestic commissions by Stephen Adam and are among the house's most treasured original features.

Known as the "Weaver Poet", Robert Tannahill's songs and poems celebrated Scotland's people, landscapes and traditions, making him a fitting figure to be honoured alongside some of the country's greatest literary voices.

It was wonderful to hear from someone with such a personal connection to the history represented in our windows. We hope they'll be able to visit Lamlash House in the future and see Robert Tannahill looking out over the staircase exactly as Stephen Adam intended more than 135 years ago.

Wishing everyone at Newmilns Gala a fantastic day for today's main event. We hope you all have a wonderful celebration.

We're also looking back with great pride on the privilege of crowning the 2019 Gala Queen, Skye MacAuly. A very special memory for us at Lamlash House, and we're delighted to continue supporting such an important local tradition.

Good luck to Arthur Aldred who will crown the Gala Queen later today.

Here's hoping the sun comes out and we're sure that any light rain won't dampen the spirits!
