Wee Anti-Racist Library

The Wee Anti-Racist Library is back this Saturday 1 August, 14:00 - 16:00, as part of the Lughnasadh Art & Music Festival at Forgan Arts Centre!

*This month's Library will take place as part of the festival, which is ticketed. If you're unable to afford this, please DM us & we will try to support.

With fires and heatwaves ravaging territories across our planet, all while we witness the expansion of fossil fuel extraction and AI mega data centres, this month at the library we will be focusing on the ecosocial crisis.

We will have a special selection of books primarily by Black and Indigenous authors looking at how we can collectively and creatively respond to the deepening climate and ecological crisis, while tackling its roots in colonialism, patriarchy and racial capitalism. Watch this space for more details during the coming days.

We will also have a special reading of one of our favourite children's books, "We Are Water Protectors", an Ojibwe girl's story of Indigenous resistance to oil pipeline expansion on Turtle Island.

Join us this coming Saturday for July's Wee Anti-Racist Library! We have some new books we're excited to share and loan out, and as ever a chance to chat, share refreshments and enjoy the garden 🦋

We will also be collecting solidarity donations to support survivors and rescue operations in Venezuela following the devastating earthquake last week 🇻🇪

🟠 The Wee Anti-Racist Library condemns the racist violence that we have witnessed over the past week across the country. We stand in solidarity with everyone who has been targeted and all those who have taken action - however small - to defend their neighbours and communities.

📚 We will be holding the next Wee Anti-Racist Library this coming Saturday 20 June at Forgan Arts Centre between 10:30am - 1pm.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited the Wee Anti-Racist Library last Saturday during the brilliant Beltane festival at Forgan Arts Centre 🔥

We were particularly moved and heartened by the visit from our friends over at the Anti-Racist Community Library, who made the journey all the way over from Woodlands Community Gardens. Their community library has been one of the main inspirations behind what we're trying to do here on Tayside, and our own wee community library wouldn't have got off the ground were it not for their encouragement and practical advice and tips, gleaned from over five years of experience. Be sure to check them out if you're in Glasgow on a library weekend! 💚

They also very kindly donated a copy of Jackie Kay's 'Red Dust Road'. This and a copy of 'Anti-Racist Baby', which was generously donated by another member of our community, will be available to borrow at the next Wee Anti-Racist Library. We're really looking forward to the next Wee Anti-Racist Library this coming Saturday, as part of the Beltane celebrations at Forgan Arts Centre.
We have some great new additions to the library which people are welcome to check out, enjoy and borrow.
This month's library will be starting a bit later, to follow on from the May Day March across the water in Dundee.
Book a place and come to browse the library between 3 - 5pm, alongside other activities in the garden.
