The North Wales Horseshoe Pass Road Race made a spectacular return on Sunday, with over 100 riders taking on the demanding roads around Llangollen in a full day of exciting racing. ⛰️

The event delivered relentless climbing, aggressive racing and rapidly changing weather conditions across both the women’s and men’s races. From hailstorms on the climbs to late-race attacks, the action never stopped. 🙌

Huge thanks to all volunteers, marshals, commissaires, NEG riders, organisers and supporters who helped deliver such a fantastic return of road racing to North Wales. 👏

Update: We’ve amended this post to properly recognise the race winner, Matthew Wales of Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham Cycling Club. Matthew took the win at Glasbury, and we should have included both his name and club in the original caption, especially while highlighting Welsh club representation.

Apologies to Matthew, Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham CC and everyone connected with the club. The omission was unintentional, and we’re grateful to those who pointed it out.

The Glasbury Road Race returned to Powys as part of the Wales and West Midlands Cup, delivering a fast and competitive afternoon of racing. 🚴‍♂️

Hosted from Gwernyfed High School, the 40-mile circuit race attracted a strong field from clubs across Wales and the West Midlands, with aggressive racing throughout the day on the flat Glasbury circuit. 💨

After a competitive afternoon of racing in Powys, Matthew Wales of Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham Cycling Clubsecured victory in a time of 1:43:12. Xander Brandon-Higgs of Halesowen A & CC finished second, 28 seconds behind, while teammate Luke Harris completed the podium in third place, crossing the line a further three seconds later. Welsh clubs were well represented across the field, with riders from Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham Cycling Club, Cardiff Ajax CC, Pontypool RCC, Abergavenny Road Club and Cwmcarn Paragon RCC all putting in strong performances throughout the race. 🙌
A huge thank you to all riders, organisers, volunteers, commissaires and supporters who helped make the event another successful day of regional racing in Wales. 👏

Diweddariad: Rydym wedi diwygio’r post hwn er mwyn cydnabod enillydd y ras yn briodol, Matthew Wales o Glwb Beicio Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrecsam. Matthew gipiodd y fuddugoliaeth yn Glasbury, a dylid bod wedi cynnwys ei enw a’i glwb yn y capsiwn gwreiddiol, yn enwedig wrth dynnu sylw at gynrychiolaeth clybiau Cymreig.

Ymddiheuriadau i Matthew, Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrexham CC a phawb sy’n gysylltiedig â’r clwb. Roedd yr hepgoriad yn anfwriadol, ac rydym yn ddiolchgar i’r rhai a wnaeth dynnu ein sylw ato.

Dychwelodd Ras Ffordd Glasbury i Bowys fel rhan o Gwpan Cymru a Gorllewin Canolbarth Lloegr, gan ddarparu prynhawn cyflym a chystadleuol o rasio. 🚴‍♂️

Wedi’i chynnal o Ysgol Uwchradd Gwernyfed, denodd y ras 40 milltir ar gylchffordd faes cryf o glybiau ledled Cymru a Gorllewin Canolbarth Lloegr, gyda rasio ymosodol drwy gydol y dydd ar gylchffordd wastad Glasbury. 💨

Ar ôl prynhawn cystadleuol o rasio ym Mhowys, sicrhaodd Matthew Wales o Glwb Beicio Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrecsam fuddugoliaeth mewn amser o 1:43:12. Gorffennodd Xander Brandon-Higgs o Halesowen A & CC yn ail, 28 eiliad ar ei ôl, tra cwblhaodd ei gyd-aelod tîm Luke Harris y podiwm yn y trydydd safle, gan groesi’r llinell dair eiliad yn ddiweddarach.
Roedd clybiau Cymreig wedi’u cynrychioli’n dda ar draws y maes, gyda beicwyr o Glwb Beicio Fibrax Fenwick’s Wrecsam, Cardiff Ajax CC, Pontypool RCC, Abergavenny Road Club a Cwmcarn Paragon RCC oll yn rhoi perfformiadau cryf drwy gydol y ras. 🙌

Diolch yn fawr i’r holl feicwyr, trefnwyr, gwirfoddolwyr, comisiynwyr a chefnogwyr a helpodd i wneud y digwyddiad yn ddiwrnod llwyddiannus arall o rasio rhanbarthol yng Nghymru. 👏

🚴‍♀️ Three generations. One race. One family legacy.

It's only 2 months to go until the Welsh Circuit Race Championships return.

As we look ahead, we’re celebrating one of our favourite stories from last year’s Championships.

At the 2025 Welsh Circuit Race Championships, Brenda, 64, lined up alongside her daughter Rhiannon and grandson Cadan — three generations, one race, and one family legacy.

In her own words:
“I just want to get round, and just prove that women of a certain age — it doesn’t stop you getting on a bike and having fun and joining in. My main effort is just to get out there, get round safely and finish.”

And she did. More than a race, it was about representation, perseverance, and showing that age, gender, or experience should never be barriers in cycling.
