Carisbrooke Castle

Carisbrooke Castle Discover the heart of the island's history and meet the famous Carisbrooke Castle donkeys 🏰 You can still play bowls on the very green Charles used.
(1651)

One of the main tourist attractions in the Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Castle is best known as the place where King Charles I was imprisoned. For a castle that has lived through more than 800 years of service, including resisting a siege by the French and seeing off the Spanish Armada, it's also wonderfully well preserved. There are all the ingredients here for a great value family day out in the I

sle of Wight. Children will love dressing up as Norman soldiers or Civil War troopers, and meeting the castle's famous donkeys, while for the grown-ups, the new Edwardian style Princess Beatrice Garden is a joy to explore. HOUSE RULES

Jingles is our youngest donkey at 5 years old. He came to us with Jester as a rescue donkey at the end of 2022.
Since then, we have worked to socialise and build their confidence and now training has started for demonstrations. Jingles being the more confident of the two, is taking it in his stride. He now puts 4 hooves on the wheel and shows great interest in progressing and becoming one of our working donkeys.

We are delighted to say that after getting the all clear from the vet, our donkey Jill has returned to doing some donkey demonstrations.

Our superb Stables Team have worked over the last few years to rehabilitate Jill following an illness. We are now at the stage where she can do light work on the wheel as this enrichment is likely to be beneficial to her general and mental wellbeing. As with all of our donkeys, Jill will be carefully monitored through this process and our team will be watching for any signs of discomfort.
