For 500 years it was a show of power and wealth, resident to generations of the Morgan family, from land-owners, to political figures, to party goers. It stood as a symbol of extravagance and style, hosting all manner of guests including Russian princesses, actors, politicians and even exotic animals. The Morgan family owned the property until 1951, when it became a catholic school. In 1974, Newport Council turned the property into a historical museum, before leasing it to the National Trust in 2012. Today, Tredegar House is transforming into a hub of the community. The National Trust cares for the site, embracing its history as well as its role in the local area. With the local community at the heart of everything we do, Tredegar House is for people, with people, by people. Visitors can now view the historic house, stables and orangery for themselves, as well as exploring the tranquil gardens. The parkland is open to the public and free to access.
