It’s easy to see the spectacle, the music and the incredible performances — but there’s a huge amount of work happening behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Our very own AS1 Ian, one of our MT Drivers, is currently mobilised and playing his part at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

From keeping people, equipment and everything else moving, MT drivers are often the unsung heroes who make sure the show can go on.

A fantastic opportunity for Ian, and another great example of how our Reservists bring their skills, commitment and professionalism to wherever they’re needed.

CT Kev, a member of 505 Squadron, has been putting his professional experience to great use, supporting STEM activities at Bodmin Keep as part of his Civil Service role.

Working with young people and families, he has been helping deliver hands-on STEM activities and inspiring the next generation of engineers and aviators.

It’s fantastic to see the skills, experience and enthusiasm of our people making a difference both in uniform and in their civilian careers.

A huge thank you to WO Richard “Dickie” Drain for everything he has done for our Reservists.

Working tirelessly behind the scenes, Dickie has been instrumental in finding and creating opportunities for our people, often without them even knowing who's helped make them possible.

Could RAF Reserve service fit alongside your civilian career?

RAF Reservists come from a wide range of civilian professions and bring their experience into a second, very different working environment.

Reserve service requires a genuine commitment. The usual minimum is 27 days each year, with training arranged across annual continuous training, weekends and half-days. The exact pattern will depend on your role and squadron.

Mobilisation can also form part of Reserve service. Formal processes, employment protections and financial support are available for eligible Reservists and employers when this happens.
