Yesterday we launched our new report on how Northern Ireland’s demographic is changing, but what does an ageing population mean for health and social care?

As people live longer, more people will live into older age often with complex or multiple long-term health conditions.

The pressure on our health and social care services is already here as we reported in our Voices of Concern report earlier this year.

And these stats say a lot. An ageing population has implications for how we plan across government, from housing and transport to our workforce and communities.

Newry DEA Seniors Winter Programme

A free six-month Winter Seniors Programme has been organised by Newry DEA and Neighbourhood Renewal for people aged 60 and over within the Newry DEA. The programme will run from October 2026 to March 2027 and will include monthly social gatherings, good-relations activities, wellbeing sessions, and shared-history visits.

Please find the promotional poster attached. I would appreciate it if you could share it with anyone who may benefit through your organisation, constituency offices, community networks, and social media pages. Your support will help us reach as many local seniors as possible.
