šŸ¦” That’s a LOT of fleas!

Hedgehog fleas (Archaeopsylla erinacei) are a species that is particularly associated with hedgehogs. They may occasionally bite other animals, but hedgehogs are their preferred host.

Not sure what I interrupted here šŸ˜‚.

I was letting the dog out for his last wee and this one seemed to just be lying like this. I gently rolled it over, as I wasn't sure if it was okay, it proceeded to huff at me a run away. Hedgehogs are such entertaining and strange little creatures.

What's the weirdest thing you have seen a hedgehog doing?

This handsome hedgehog is Ziggy, he is in ELM at the moment as he is having treatment for a skin infection.

He doesn't seem to mind his medicated baths and spells in the incubator to dry off afterwards.

Hopefully, all being well, he will only be in for about a week, then can return to his garden.

We know you'll be on the edge of your seat when watching this high-octane video of sssssyd.

Sssssyd got tangle in garden netting and has suffered a nasty wound. It has been assessed and cleaned, hopefully with a bit of time and some tasty food the wound will heal, allowing sssssyd to go back to the wild.

Bob and Russell having a drink while James waits his turn.

These three chunky monkeys are now fit and well, ready for their release this Friday. They came in as tiny orphaned hoglets needing hand feeding round the clock.

James has gotten himself a reputation amongst our volunteers as he is partial to biting them šŸ˜…. It's rare that hedgheogs will bite and luckily its not a particularly painful bite. However, it is quite a shock when these usually quiet creatures are suddenly hanging off you hand.

Good evening all,
We’ve had a lot of problems with the road closures around Newton Abbot, this has led to finders refusing to being in casualties to volunteers not wanting to navigate the changes.

I’ve put a video together to help people negotiate part of the latest road closures and new open sections, The new route for Newton Abbot is probably the simplest, when I have time, I’ll film the other routes from Plymouth and Exeter.

Please go to https://www.youtube.com/ and look up the clip entitled ā€œSeale Hayne diversion from Newton Abbot via Exeter Rdā€ and if you have time, please watch some of our other clips.

Big thank you to those who came and supported ELM at The Italian Gardens open day, I had a great time and it was lovely to meet you all. Thank you again to Steph and the volunteers, it was lovely to meet you all.
Regards,
Rick

This little 72g hoglet is Jellybean.

Her finders initially saw her out at night last week with her mum, however today she was spotted hunched in the corner of their garden alone and in daylight. We don't know what went wrong between these two sighting but something definitely has. Poor Jellybean is thin, dehydrated, and has blood in her faeces.

She has been stabilised for tonight with heat, subcutaneous fluids, pain relief and antibiotics pending further assessments and tests over the coming days. Fingers crossed she has got to us in time and we can save her.

Looking forward to seeing you all, the weather looks great, should be a lovely day.
