🦔💚 A Huge Thank You to Kit! 💚🦔

We would like to say a huge thank you to Kit, who chose ELM Wildlife Rescue as the charity to support for his Year 6 Civic Award.

Over the last year, Kit has helped us in so many ways. He has volunteered on our stall at local fairs, organised a food drive which collected an amazing amount of food for our animals, helped with the release of a hedgehog, and we know he has continued to support wildlife at home too.

Your kindness, enthusiasm and dedication to helping British wildlife have made a real difference, and we are incredibly grateful for all your hard work.

Thank you, Kit. We are very proud of you and all that you have achieved. Keep up the fantastic work! 🦔🐦🦇💚

Do you remember Stuart Little who we posted about a couple of weeks ago?

He wasn't even two weeks old, but had obviously had an awful start to life. He was admitted to the rescue after being found alone, dehydrated, emaciated, and with wounds to his face and head.

Two weeks on, and look at him now. He is a chunky, healthy 4 week old and we have even been able to incorporate him into another litter of hoglets so he has some company. Stuart, along with his new sibling Jo, Mo and Bo are beginning to be weaned off hand feeds, much to Stuart's disgust.

Please don't forget to support ELM, we have spent thousands lately towards the planning and maintenance for ELM's new rescue centre. if you can spare a few quid towards supporting ELM, we would be very grateful.

🦔 Meet Lizzie 🦔

Lizzie arrived with us this morning after her finders quite possibly saved her life at 2:30 am. They heard an awful noise outside — most likely Lizzie crying out — and we suspect their presence disturbed whatever was attacking her.

Despite the ordeal, this little hedgehog was incredibly lucky. Lizzie has a nasty gash to her lip and a couple of other wounds, but thankfully nothing that can’t be treated. She is now safe with us and receiving the care she needs.

We’re hopeful that, with plenty of rest and treatment, Lizzie will make a good recovery and one day be back where she belongs.

Thank you to her finders for listening to that strange noise in the middle of the night and taking action. It may well have saved her life. ❤️

🦔 Friday’s arrivals were this lovely mum and her four babies after their nest was accidentally disturbed by a dog.

Mum and babies have now been reunited and are safely tucked away together in a quiet area.

Rose was brought in today after being found out in the day unable to stand but trying to drag herself around. She is painfully weak and during her initial examination, we were able to establish why.

Wedged in her top jaw was a half peanut and a bunch of other debris that had gotten caught up between the peanut and the roof of her mouth. Judging by the smell coming from all of this, it had been there a while and will have prevented her from being able to eat, drink or close her mouth.

Please never feed Hedgehogs peanuts, not only do they have no nutritional value for them as they are insectivores, they are also very hazardous. If you feed peanuts to garden birds, try to make the feeders so that the peanuts cannot drop to the floor for hedgehogs to pick up.

Brenda the beach badger update

Massive thank you to all the lovely and helpful staff at Ladram Bay Holiday Park, especially Billy from the beach who helped us safely locate and capture Brenda yesterday evening as well as naming her.

Brenda, who is just a cub at only around 4 months old, is in a bit of a state after spending at least a week stuck on the beach at Ladram bay. She is very underweight, was very dehydrated and has wounds and sores on her feet from being stranded on the rocks and the salt water.

She spent yesterday evening in a large incubator receiving fluids and pain relief before being moved to a heated pen for the night.

🎉She made it through the night🎉.

Brenda is eating well; receiving sloppy/hydrating foods little and often and today, has far more of the stroppy attitude you would expect from a Badger. She still has a long journey and a big fight ahead; it is more than likely that she has been drinking sea water and that has the potential to damage her kidneys; but we're thrilled with her progress so far.

Regards,
Rick and Emily.

Please don't forget our https://gofund.me/1a958d3dc, it takes a lot of time and money to do what we do and your support will hopefully keep ELM going.
