For Postural Awareness Month, we are looking at postural management through the lens of the Six F-words for Child Development. Good posture isn't the end goal; the end goal is what posture makes possible across 24 hours.

How do we use positioning to support these six vital areas?

• Function: Does positioning help a child see, reach, and breathe better?
• Family: Is the equipment realistic and supportive of the whole family's quality of life?
• Fitness: Are we creating opportunities for the 20 minutes of daily physical activity recommended for disabled young people?
• Fun & Friends: Does a standing or seating program allow a child to play and join their friends at eye level?
• Future: Are we protecting body shape today to keep options open for a child's future participation?
Movement is not separate from posture care - it is the very heart of it.
