Mearnskirk Helping Hands held their AGM yesterday. This charitable organisation is celebrating its 10th anniversary with continued expansion of their services. It now has 146 volunteers, a new eco-friendly bus and numerous activities for senior citizens. The continued growth in demand for their services shows how residents value Mearnskirk Helping Hands.
All this would not be possible without the dynamic professional staff led by Vicky Attwood, the trustees and volunteers.
Local senior citizens can look forward to future years of support from this great organisation, which was recently awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service.

This is a very worthwhile local project and worth getting involved if you would like to support the beautification of Patterton station.

East Renfrewshire’s roads “in decline” following soaring cost of Aurs Road – councillor claims overall spending figures are “misleading”, with less cash going on repairs while more streets are now rated as needing maintenance.

Do you think the state of our local roads is getting worse?

Royal Bank of Scotland, Giffnock

I am very disappointed by the proposed closure of the Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Giffnock on 17 September 2026.

This does not happen in isolation. Giffnock has already lost nearby Clydesdale Bank and Bank of Scotland branches in recent years, and the cumulative effect is a serious reduction in local face-to-face banking provision.

I am taking this matter up formally with NatWest Group, which owns Royal Bank of Scotland, and will be seeking clarity on the branch closure assessment, the cash access assessment, and what replacement or mitigation provision is being considered for Giffnock.

Online banking works for many people, but not for everyone. Older residents, vulnerable customers, local businesses, charities, clubs and community organisations still need practical access to banking services, cash deposits, cheque services, change-giving and face-to-face support.

I will provide a further update once my formal correspondence has been issued.

Cllr Andrew Morrison has criticised the health and social care partnership after plans to axe the Local Area Coordination service were paused following a huge backlash from families. The service supports some of East Renfrewshire's most vulnerable people
