206 Ulster Battery Royal Artillery - The Ulster Gunners 206 (Ulster) Battery Royal Artillery are part of 105th Regiment Royal Artillery. The Battery represents Northern Ireland for this ceremonial duty.

206 (Ulster) Battery Royal Artillery

The Ulster Gunners are a Field Artillery Unit based in Northern Ireland and part of 105 Regiment. We are made up of A Troop and HQ in Newtownards, and B Troop in Coleraine. We use the Army’s most versatile Gun, the 105mm L118 Light Gun, with a range of 17,200. The Light Gun can be towed by a medium-weight vehicle (such as a Pinzgauer TUM) or carried around the

battlefield under slung by a Chinook helicopter.

206 Battery has the honour of firing 6 ceremonial gun salutes every year to mark Royal occasions at Royal Hillsborough Castle. Roles:

Guns
Our gun battery is equipped with the 105mm Light Gun which are highly mobile, accurate and pack a lethal punch. The 6 man Gun Detachments are critical to the unit, working as close knit teams to deliver fire in all weather conditions, day or night. Command Post (CP)
The Command Post is the β€œbrains” of the unit. The CP interprets information from the Observers to calculate the gun data in order for the guns to strike the target with pinpoint accuracy. Observer Post (OPs)
Our light role regiment is organised into Fire Support Teams (FSTs) to find the enemy and our gun batteries provide the firepower for the strike. Our dismounted FSTs find the enemy on the battlefield using lightweight lasers, MSTAR radars, thermal imaging and night vision equipment. Once the enemy location is identified, the FST coordinates guns, mortars, attack helicopters and fast jets to deliver a devastating strike. Logistics
Logistics soldiers form the backbone of the Royal Artillery. Our drivers, chefs and logistics specialists resupply the Batteries with ammunition, food, water etc. and are critical to a successful exercise or operation. Our soldiers participate in all manner of sporting activities including Parachuting, Sailing, Orienteering, Diving, Rock Climbing, Hill Walking, Mountain Biking and Winter Sports. We also have a number of soldiers who compete in events such as Football, Parachuting and Snowboarding.
