The Parish Clerk would be interested to hear from any local tradesmen (or women) who might be interested in quoting for some remedial works that need carrying out to the white wall surrounding the war memorial and bordering the car park to the Village Hall; the rendering is coming away in places. Please contact her at [email protected] or on 07825 634 672 if you are interested in meeting to discuss the work required.

The Parish Council is aware of an increasing amount of dog poo being left by residents using the field behind the cemetery to walk their dogs.

This land was left in trust to the Parish Council for use by the public as a recreational area (not just for dog walkers).

Dog faeces can be extremely harmful to humans due to the presence of harmful bacteria. Children from the village use this open space and we are keen to keep it as a clean, green area for use by the residents of Nordelph but a few irresponsible dog owners are causing issues for other users of this space.

This is a request that all dog walkers using the field behind the cemetery pick up behind their dogs, bag it and dispose of it either in the dog waste bins along Birchfield Road or in the litter bin at the Staithe (if the dog poo is bagged it is acceptable to dispose of it in this litter bin).

Please be respectful to other users of the field.

The next meeting of Nordelph Parish Council will be held on Tuesday 10th February 2026 at 6.30pm in the Village Hall, Birchfield Road. There will be a Public Forum of fifteen minutes to allow residents to raise any matters of local interest or concern. All welcome.

Call for sites to help shape future development

The Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk is asking anyone who might own a parcel of land suitable for development to respond to a 'call for sites' consultation.

The consultation, which opens on Monday (2 February), will help the council to carry out a fresh assessment of development land in the area, an important first step in the process of developing a new Local Plan.

Jim Moriarty, the Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Licensing, said: "Even though the Borough Council only adopted a new Local Plan in March last year, there have been major changes to the planning system since then.

"We also have a number of challenges we will need to meet in the coming years, including a nationally-identified local need for more than 8,000 homes.

"This means that to plan positively and to meet the needs of current and future communities we need start the work of preparing our next Local Plan now.

"We are starting with a review of possible sites so if you have a parcel of land that you think might be suitable, we would be interested to hear from you."

The Council's call includes new sites that may not have been put forward before, and existing sites: these all need to be re-submitted and reviewed as their suitability may have changed. Creating a full picture of sites will help the Council to build a database of potential development land.

All types of sites and uses will be considered, from small sites suited to custom and self-build housing to large parcels of land for employment, renewable energy and green spaces. Sites can be greenfield (undeveloped land) and/ or brownfield (previously developed land). They can be anywhere across West Norfolk, as these will help to determine the location of new homes, jobs, and essential infrastructure over many years.

The Council is hoping to hear from residents who own parcels of land as well as landowners, developers and agents. By taking part, they have the opportunity to influence where, when and how future developments may occur, helping to address the needs of our communities.

The consultation begins on Monday, 2 February, and closes on Tuesday, 31 March. All site proposals should be submitted using the online portal, which allows respondents to easily draw a site onto an Ordnance Survey base map and provide relevant supporting details.

Proposals can be put forward for various uses, including market housing and affordable housing, custom and self-build housing, other specialist housing and accommodation types (such as housing with care) recreational and leisure spaces, public open spaces, commercial, industrial storage and distribution facilities, mixed-use developments, town centre regeneration projects, renewable energy schemes, infrastructure projects, biodiversity land, and any other type of land use.

Notes to Editors

Just to note – this process needs to happen irrespective of any changes brought about by local government reorganisation.

21/11/2025

The Government's statutory consultation on proposals to change how local government services are delivered in Norfolk and Suffolk, the Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) has now officially opened. It will run for 8 weeks only, closing on Sunday 11 January 2026 at 23:59.

This marks an important moment for the county and your views will be vital in shaping how services are run in the future.

The Government is asking for people's views on three different options put forward by the existing Norfolk councils in response to its drive to reorganise Norfolk's eight county, city, district and borough councils into new unitary authorities responsible for all local services.
The options under consultation for Norfolk are:

• Three councils (East Norfolk, West Norfolk and Greater Norwich) – proposed jointly by the Future Norfolk partnership of six district councils: Breckland District Council, Broadland District Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk District Council, and Norwich City Council.

• Two councils (Norwich & East Norfolk, and West & North Norfolk) – proposed by South Norfolk District Council.

• One council (covering the whole of Norfolk) – proposed by Norfolk County Council.

The consultation can be accessed via this link:
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/local-government-reorganisation-in-norfolk-and-suffolk/proposals-for-local-government-reorganisation-in-norfolk-and-suffolk

There is just one consultation document on the Government’s website that links to each of the proposals received from Norfolk and Suffolk. There are separate sets of questions to answer for each proposal and it is for you to decide which proposal you want to respond to. You can respond to as many of the proposals as you like, but you do not have to respond to all of them if you don't want to.

Anyone with an interest in the future of local government in Norfolk — including town and parish councils, local partners, businesses, and members of the public — is encouraged to respond.
