CO’s competition 26-3 March and Shoot 🏃🔫

Last Thursday saw the third event in the COs competition series, with 6HQ&S Sqn putting the teams through their paces in a challenging March and Shoot.

Adapting to the heat, teams began with a demanding 4 km tactical march led by the PTIs before being released to race the final 2 km as a team to the range.

On arrival, they were tested on their marksmanship, teamwork, and communication as sections, engaging targets at distances ranging from 200–500 m. Casualty extractions and ammunition resupplies between practices further tested their ability to operate under pressure.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and to 6 HQ & S Sqn for delivering a fantastic event. Congratulations to our winners, who took home the Jaques Luc Abley Challenge Cup!🏆

This afternoon, members of RHQ headed to the clay range to develop their shotgun skills.

The session began with a lesson delivered by Cpl W, the regiment’s qualified clay pigeon shooting instructor, covering the principles of shotgun marksmanship and its relevance to Counter-UAS.

The conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the growing threat posed by uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), demonstrating the importance of developing the skills required to counter both passing and loitering drones. Training such as this helps ensure our soldiers remain adaptable, capable, and prepared to meet the challenges of the modern battlefield.

Alongside its operational value, the afternoon provided an opportunity to step away from the office, enjoy the sunshine, and take part in healthy competition between members of RHQ.

A busy July on the ranges for the Condors 🦅

52 AES conducted CQM shoots with rifle and pistol on Ex CONDOR STRIKE. The Sqn has been focusing on improving the Sapper’s marksmanship by exposing them to advanced LFMT shoots, building individual confidence behind their weapon systems.

Ex CONDOR PYRO also saw members of 52 AES take part in a live gr***de range, giving junior Sappers their first exposure to the L109 HE Gr***de.

Ex PORTLAND DIVE 🔱

Over the past two weeks, the 22 Engineer Regiment Dive Team deployed on Ex PORTLAND DIVE in Weymouth, focusing on fast water diving operations.

For three days, we trained the Ukrainian Dive Team, sharing specialist technique in underwater search schemes for fast water diving ops.

It was a privilege to work alongside the Ukrainian divers, who are now looking to incorporate fast water diving into their own training syllabus - strengthening capability through shared knowledge, cooperation and interoperability.

This week, members of 3AES headed to the Lake District for three days of Adventurous Training.

The team put their navigation skills to the test, covered plenty of miles on the fells, and made the most of the fantastic weather along the way.

For many of the soldiers, it was their first visit to the Lake District, providing a great opportunity to explore a new area, build confidence outdoors, and experience everything Adventurous Training has to offer.

Last week, 52 AES were out conducting Ex CONDOR PATROL.

Working through a series of arduous and complex tasks, the section commanders and their sections were tested in a multitude of scenarios including a tactical river crossing and a Close Target Recce (CTR) at night whilst being hunted by drones.

This exercise also provided an opportunity for the regimental CAMBRIAN PATROL team to hone their training ahead of the main competition later this year.

Not a bad way to end the week… 🚁😎

After a busy few weeks of preparing for and delivering Sapper Games, some of the team from 3 AES were rewarded for all their hard work with a well-earned Chinook flight.
