Op CABRIT 18 - Ex BADGER BRAWL

BADGER took part in an intense, multi-day exercise in the Rabasaare Urban Training Area. Troops put their dismounted training to the test in intense close-quarter firefights, Recce serials and planning cycles against a live enemy force. Troops took the opportunity to act 'one up' from their current role and employed a variety of assets to achieve success - including Military Working Dogs integrated with assaulting sections.

Although outside of the expected job-role of CR2 crew, Ex BADGER BRAWL proved the importance of dismounted skills and their place in ensuring we stay ready - and lethal.

Ex HUSKY NERO – Battlefield Study, Sicily.

In June 2026, 25 officers and soldiers from the Royal Tank Regiment deployed to Sicily to study the events of Operation HUSKY – the Allied invasion of Sicily during the Second World War.

At each battlefield stand, the Regimental Historian, LCpl Phillips, delivered an excellent account of the actions that took place. A Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) was then conducted, encouraging discussion on how modern-day tactics, capabilities and technology could be applied to address the challenges faced by commanders during the campaign.

The study concluded at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Catania, where the Regiment conducted an Act of Remembrance for those who fell during the campaign.

Op CABRIT 18 - BADGER Ex HIDDEN PANZER 3

BADGER deployed to the South Tapa Training Area to conduct Ex HIDDEN PANZER 3 - a Counter Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C-ISR) exercise as part of the 1RW Battlegroup.

BADGER CR2 crews went head-to-head against the Squadrons's newly-qualified sUAS operators as they were hunted across a multi-day exercise. Experimental camouflage and concealment methods were tested and evaluated to better understand how we can stay hidden on an increasingly transparent battlefield.

Alongside rigorous C-ISR testing, crews received medical training from 2MED Armoured Medics - performing vehicle evacuations and first-line care using a variety of civilian emergency response equipment.

FIND, STRIKE and SWEAT

As the UK enjoys another blistering week, DREADNAUGHT continue to train hard.
Having received their General Service and Wider Service Medals on Monday at the Tank museum (see the Tank Museum FB page for more), the Regiment’s FIND and STRIKE Sqn kicked the week off with a loaded speed march.

This was also the final week of the FPV Operator’s course which saw the potential pilots, who have completed many hours of flying over the past weeks, enter the Tactical Flying Phase of their course before becoming qualified FPV pilots, capable of striking the enemy with precision and at reach.

The week finished with CO’s PT and an inter-Sqn competition; A strong effort from the smallest Sqn on parade finishing 2nd place.

Remember - if you don’t have anything nice to say in the comments section, don’t feel the need to say anything at all!

Beat the Heat

Despite the sweltering weather DREADNAUGHT were pounding the pavement this morning with a 20Kg loaded march, ensuring that they maintain operationally relevant fitness. Heat injury is a real threat in hot weather when conducting arduous training so DREADNAUGHT, using their newly qualified PTI, took themselves out of their comfort zone and proved that PT can continue within safe limits despite adverse conditions.

Op CABRIT 18 - Ex SPRING STORM 26

BADGER deployed to Southern Estonia for Exercise SPRING STORM 26 as part of the 1RW Battlegroup.

Crews were tested in unfamiliar terrain over a vast exercising area. Challenger 2s navigated through villages, operated on public roads and cleared through dense forests with dismounted armoured infantry in Combat Teams. Challenged by complex ground, unmanned aerial systems and a dynamic enemy, BADGER crews enjoyed testing different tactics to achieve decisive success.

INNOVATION

This week the Regiment ran an innovation day for all ranks from across the Iron Division.

Delivered and resourced by DREADNAUGHT’s new Recce, ISR and STRIKE troops, the day showcased the grassroots innovation and capability development being done by the RTR BG to ensure that it remains at the leading edge of contemporary combined arms warfare.

On display were demonstrations of under-armour UAS, fibre optic FPV drones, thermal FPVs, and simulators to name but a few.

The day was designed to inspire and encourage budding innovators and potential operators to explore any interests they have in emerging capabilities and to see what is possible with some ingenuity and integration.
