Today is the start of Volunteers' Week, so there's no better time to say a massive THANK YOU to all the volunteers who make everything that happens at Northallerton library possible.

So, thank you, every one of you - those who every week give their time to help customers with their enquiries, support events, process reservations, keep the shelves filled and looking good and much more; and to the IT support buddies and the book pickers and drivers of the home library service. Every one of you is invaluable.

And there's no better time to join our band of volunteers.

Libraries are more than just shelves of books, they're vibrant community hubs where people learn, connect and grow. By volunteering to support your library, you can support these vital spaces. Whether you love books, enjoy helping others or simply want to give to your community, there's a place for you.

Are you aged 13-25? We are looking for young volunteers to help deliver the Summer Reading Challenge between July and September!

Summer Reading Challenge volunteers will work alongside library staff in delivering the Summer Reading Challenge. They will welcome children and parents, give support, praise and encouragement, and do their best to ensure that each child completes the challenge, enjoys the experience and gets maximum benefit from taking part.

It’s an ideal opportunity to improve your UCAS application, enhance your CV, and meet new people!

To receive an application form for yourself or your child, please email at [email protected] or pop into the library to pick up a physical form.

Have you checked out the exhibition of work by York artist Kevin Clarke in the upstairs gallery at Northallerton library?

It's well worth a look and can be seen until the end of June.

Kevin says: "Since retiring, I have rekindled my passion for drawing and love creating a variety of subjects. I particularly like creating drawings which show the character and draw the viewer into the story."

Framed prints of all the works on show are available to buy from the library for £45 each.

Before the men's football World Cup or the women's T20 World Cup, we had Go Sports!

The half-term indoor sports tournament for 10-16-year-olds took place at the library yesterday with competitors trying their hand at table tennis, darts, air hockey and table football, plus bowls and golf.

The winners went home with book token prizes, so congratulations to them and thank you to everyone who took part. And a special thank you to the Duke of Edinburgh Award students for the hard work they put in during recent months to devise and organise the event.
