🥾 GOLD DofE SUCCESS IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES! 🏕️

A huge congratulations to the 17 RAF Air Cadets from across North Region who have successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award qualifying expedition in the Yorkshire Dales.

Among them were three cadets from Central & East Yorkshire Wing:

👏 Cpl Harvey Waring – 110 (City of York) Squadron
👏 FS Meg Hall – 2040 (Richmond) Squadron
👏 Cdt Reuben Turner – 886 (City of Ripon) Squadron

The four-day expedition covered more than 50 miles (80km), taking the teams from Redmire near Leyburn through Wensley, Horsehouse, Buckden, Arncliffe and Malham, before finishing in the hills above Kettlewell.

Along the way, cadets tackled everything the Yorkshire weather could throw at them, from sunshine and warm conditions to heavy rain and strong winds, while carrying all of their own equipment and food.

The expedition was entirely planned and navigated by the cadets, putting months of preparation, teamwork, resilience and navigation skills into practice.

Sqn Ldr Charlotte Bridges, North Region Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Officer, praised the cadets for the hard work they had put into preparing for both their practice and qualifying expeditions and for working together to make sure the whole team completed the challenge.

Once all four sections of their Gold Award are complete, the cadets will become eligible to attend a Gold Award celebration at Buckingham Palace to receive recognition for their achievement.

An outstanding effort from everyone involved and a fantastic milestone for our three CEY cadets. Well done! 👏🥇

Congratulations to Cdt FS Tiffany Ling of 873 (Driffield) Squadron, who has taken up the role of Station Commander’s Cadet at RAF Leeming.

FS Ling formally took over the appointment on 27 May, when Gp Capt John “Geordie” Lawson presented her with the Station Commander’s Cadet cane during a short ceremony at Station Headquarters.

During her visit, Tiffany was also shown the Station’s Historic Training Facility, visited 11 Squadron and toured a number of other facilities before joining the Station Commander for lunch.

Speaking about the appointment, FS Ling said she was excited and honoured to take on the role and was looking forward to the year of engagements ahead.

She has already represented the Air Cadets at RAF Leeming’s Annual Formal Reception, an event which welcomes members of the local community onto the Station and thanks them for their support in helping deliver its mission.

A fantastic opportunity to represent both 873 (Driffield) Squadron and Central & East Yorkshire Wing. Congratulations, Tiffany! 👏

Skills, teamwork and plenty of time in the field. 🌲

A look at our cadets developing their Bronze and Silver Fieldcraft skills, putting theory into practice through a range of practical exercises and scenarios.

From camouflage and concealment to movement, communication and working effectively as part of a team, fieldcraft gives cadets the chance to build confidence, resilience and leadership in a challenging outdoor environment.

Precision, teamwork and plenty of practice. 👏

A look at an Advanced Drill Routine, bringing together sharp movements, coordination and discipline to produce something a little different from everyday squadron drill.

Advanced drill gives cadets the opportunity to develop their confidence, teamwork and attention to detail, while pushing their drill skills to the next level.

Congratulations to everyone who recently completed the Advanced Drill Course at Cadet Training Centre Driffield.

Throughout the course, cadets developed their drill knowledge, instructional ability and confidence, while refining the high standards expected across the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

A fantastic effort from all involved, and we look forward to seeing them put their new skills into practice back at their squadrons.

Cadets are taught weapon handling skills as part of a structured programme of supervised training that emphasises safe and responsible use.

North Region Inter Wing Athletics 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A cracking day in Leeds for the North Region - Royal Air Force Air Cadets Inter Wing Athletics Competition, with cadets from across Central & East Yorkshire Wing pulling on the Wing colours and giving it everything.

It was warm, it was competitive, and there were some seriously strong performances across the track and field events. As always, the best bit wasn’t just the medals or results, but seeing cadets backing each other, pushing themselves, and representing the Wing properly.

A massive well done to every CEY cadet who took part. Whether you came away with a medal, a PB, or just absolutely emptied the tank for your team, you did the Wing proud.

Congratulations to Merseyside Wing Air Cadets on taking the overall win, and well done to all Wings who took part.

Theres a couple of videos from the day on their way so watch out for those.

Unwatermarked copies of the photos along with group photos have been sent to the North Region Wing MCOs, so if any squadrons would like copies, please get in touch with your Wing Media & Communications Officer.

Big thanks as always to the sports staff, volunteers and everyone who helped make the day happen.

What a brilliant day on the seafront celebrating service, community and the next generation.

Our cadets were proud to stand alongside veterans, serving personnel, fellow cadet forces, the Royal British Legion and local organisations as Scarborough once again showed its support for the Armed Forces community.

From the parade to the public engagement throughout the day, it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what cadets do and to be part of something much bigger.

Thank you to North Yorkshire Council for bringing the event together, and to everyone who stopped to speak to our cadets, supported the fundraising and cheered along the parade.

A great day for Scarborough, and a proud day for the cadet forces.
