Plans to strengthen protection for the Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area (SPA) is being considered by councillors this month.

The Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits SPA is recognised for its importance to wintering birds and forms a key part of the area’s natural environment.

The updated approach reflects new evidence showing that development and visitor activity from a wider area can affect the site. It expands the area where mitigation may be required from 3km to 5.9km, helping to ensure that planned growth does not harm the SPA.

We found a male Miniature Pinscher on Billing Brook Road in Northampton, near Cygnet Lake, in the late morning on Wednesday 10 June.

He is black and tan and looks to be about 8 to 10 years old. He was left with a bed and other belongings. He also has cataracts.

He is microchipped, but there are no details for the owner.

He is now safe in our kennels. If you have any information about him, please email [email protected].

Moving forward on travel improvements.

Thank you to everyone who shared views on our Active Travel Strategy, Rail Action Plan and Mobility Hub Action Plan over the winter.

More than 500 of you had a say, helping to shape the plans for creating safer and better connected routes for walking and cycling, improving rail services and access to stations, and developing new mobility hubs where different types of transport come together in one place.

The feedback led to a number of changes, including strengthening accessibility and inclusion, adding clearer proposals for rural connections, updating our position on reopening former rail lines, and improving the design and explanation of mobility hubs.

Dozens of new affordable homes are set to be delivered in Daventry after Cabinet members approved plans to acquire 47 properties at the Malabar development.

We will purchase a mix of apartments and maisonettes from Crest Nicholson, helping to ensure these much-needed homes remain available for affordable rent for local people.

A resident has been fined £600 for using an unlicensed waste carrier who fly tipped their rubbish on farmland in Weedon.

They arranged for the waste to be removed through Facebook Marketplace, paid in cash and did not check if the carrier was licensed.
