Holdenby House Once an Elizabethan Palace, Holdenby now hosts weddings, events & visitors over the summer season Follow us on Twitter & Instagram

Holdenby House is the surviving wing of the Elizabethan Palace built in 1583 by Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I. It subsequently became the palace of James I and the prison of Charles I following his defeat in the Civil War. Holdenby is now a much loved family home, and is opened up for just a handful of weddings each year, making this a really exclusive venue for your big day. The house and Grade I listed gardens are made available on the basis of your exclusive use and the house is licensed for civil ceremonies. There is a suite of elegant rooms stretching the whole south side of the house overlooking the stunning gardens which in turn look onto views of rolling countryside with not a building in sight. 🏆 A BIG Holdenby Congratulations to Millie's Bakery! 🥖💚

We have some wonderful news to share!

A huge congratulations to Millie’s Bakery who took home Gold at the Weetabix Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards last week for their delicious Rustic Sourdough! 👏

For those of you who have visited our Old Stableyard Tearoom, you'll know that good food and a warm welcome are all part of the experience.

We're delighted to see Millie's hard work and passion recognised among the very best of Northamptonshire's food and drink businesses.

It's fantastic to see local independent businesses celebrated for the care, creativity and dedication they bring to what they do.

So, from all of us at Holdenby, congratulations to Millie and the team what a brilliant achievement! 💚

💛 Looking Back at Last Weekend... Cycle4Cynthia 💛

Last weekend, we were incredibly proud to host and support Cycle4Cynthia at Holdenby House.

What a fantastic day it was! 🚴‍♀️👏

From the early morning arrivals to the riders crossing the finish line, there was such an incredible atmosphere around Holdenby. Smiles, cheering, determination and plenty of tired legs! 😂

It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to take part, support friends and family and, most importantly, raise vital funds for Cynthia Spencer Hospice
And this year was particularly special as 2026 marks 50 years of Cynthia Spencer Hospice. 💛

For five decades, Cynthia Spencer has been providing specialist palliative care to people living with life-limiting illnesses, while also supporting their families across our local community.
Their work reaches far beyond the hospice itself, with services including Hospice at Home, wellbeing support, lymphoedema care and bereavement support providing care and support when families need it most.

We were delighted to play our small part by providing the setting for such a brilliant event. 💚

A huge well done to every single rider who took part, and a massive thank you to all the volunteers, supporters and the wonderful team at Cynthia Spencer who helped make the day such a success.

And that atmosphere... what a way to spend a Sunday at Holdenby! 🚴‍♀️💛

💚 A Very Big Thank You to Our Volunteers 💚

As our regular visitor season comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to shine a very well-deserved spotlight on some of the people who help make Holdenby what it is.

Our volunteers. 🌿

Volunteers play such an important role here at Holdenby. From helping to maintain our beautiful gardens and grounds, supporting events and activities, welcoming visitors and sharing their knowledge, to all the many jobs that happen quietly behind the scenes, their contribution is huge.

They give their time, their skills and, perhaps most importantly, their enthusiasm for Holdenby.

And that makes a real difference.

It's not just about helping us keep everything looking beautiful or making sure events run smoothly. Our volunteers are part of the experience that visitors have when they come to Holdenby, helping to create the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that we're so proud of.

Last week, we brought our volunteers together for our end of season tea, a chance to sit down, enjoy some cake, catch up and, most importantly, say thank you for everything they've done throughout the season. ☕🍰

To every single one of our volunteers...

🦅 If you love birds of prey, this weekend is for you! 🦅

Something rather special is happening at Holdenby this weekend as we welcome falconers from across the county for our Falconry Gathering.

Taking place on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September, the weekend is all about celebrating the incredible world of falconry and the magnificent birds at its heart.

Organised by Icarus Falconry with guest flights from other falconers around the county, visitors will have the opportunity to see a wonderful variety of birds of prey and experience the skill and spectacle of falconry up close.

And there's a lovely connection to Holdenby's own history too...

Both James I and Charles I were enthusiastic about falconry, so seeing these magnificent birds flying at Holdenby today feels like a wonderful link between the past and the present. 🦅

Whether you're a lifelong bird of prey enthusiast or simply curious to learn more, it's set to be a fascinating weekend.

The Falconry Gathering at Holdenby is about much more than watching spectacular birds take to the skies.

It's about the people behind the birds.

The incredible relationship between falconer and bird.

For one weekend, Icarus Falconry will welcome guest falconers from across the county to Holdenby for a celebration of all things birds of prey.

If you've ever watched a falcon, owl or eagle in flight and wondered how they do it, this is your chance to get closer to the world of falconry and ask questions.

On Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th September, Holdenby will host the Falconry Gathering — a whole weekend celebrating these incredible birds.

Organised by our very own Icarus Falconry, the gathering will bring together falconers from across the county, with guest flights joining Icarus throughout the weekend.

It's a chance to see a wonderful variety of birds, watch them fly and spend time with people who share a real passion for falconry.

And you don't need to be an experienced falconer to enjoy it!

Whether you're already fascinated by birds of prey or simply curious to learn more, everyone is welcome.

With multiple distances available, Trailfest is an opportunity for runners of different abilities to take on the trails and experience the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside from a completely different perspective.

Whether you're an experienced trail runner, looking for a new challenge or simply fancy getting out there and giving it a go, there's a distance to suit.
