๐ Memorial to the Battle of Naseby, built on an old windmill mound
This raised earthwork began its life as the site of a windmill recorded on a 1630 map, showing its role in the agricultural and industrial landscape of medieval Northamptonshire. The mound later gained new significance when the 19th century Naseby Obelisk was built directly on top of it, creating a layered landmark where medieval rural practice and later commemorative heritage meet.
The 1823 memorial stands over a mile from the actual battlefield, yet its placement on the former windmill mound reflects both the visibility and long standing presence of this feature in the landscape.
