So this is one of the reasons why we control Grey Squirrels at our woods. It’s not something we chose to do lightly, after all the whole reason for us doing what we’re doing is to save and restore the wood to health and ensure it is as biodiverse as we can.
Many people think Grey Squirrels are cute and fluffy, but they are a very destructive non native specie, that not only carries a disease that kills our native reds, but hugely impacts small woodland bird populations and tree health.
It is imperative that we take all necessary steps to control grey squirrel numbers, and ideally eradicate them, to allow our native red squirrels to recover and take up residence in our woods once more.
