🌟 A Little Pit Stop After a Big Day! 🌟

Today, our Year 11 students attended the Careers Fair at the Norfolk Showground, followed by a well-deserved little pit stop! ❤️

We couldn’t be prouder of them today! 🥰

What an absolute joy it was to stand back and watch our young people confidently engage in conversations with complete strangers, ask questions, show genuine interest and explore their futures.

For some of these students, just a year ago, the thought of approaching someone they didn’t know, let alone starting a conversation, would have been completely out of the question.

And that is what progress looks like. ❤️

It’s not always about grades, exams or academic achievements. Sometimes, the biggest milestones are the ones that can’t be measured on paper.

Watching their confidence grow, seeing them step outside their comfort zones and recognising just how far they’ve come is what makes our job so incredibly rewarding.

Today wasn’t just about exploring careers. It was about our young people beginning to believe in themselves and what their futures could hold. 🌈

Well done, Year 11. You’ve done The Lighthouse proud! 🏠❤️

🥊 PE at The Lighthouse – More Than Just Exercise

At The Lighthouse, we understand that PE looks different for every young person.

For some of our students, walking into a busy sports hall, joining a team game or trying something unfamiliar can feel like a huge challenge. That’s why our approach to PE is built around relationships, confidence, regulation and finding something each young person can enjoy and succeed in.

Working alongside Able2B, our students have opportunities to experience different forms of physical activity in a supportive environment. From boxing and fitness to games and individual challenges, the focus isn’t simply on who is the fastest, strongest or most athletic.

🥊 It’s learning to persevere when something is difficult.
💪 It’s building confidence and self-esteem.
🧠 It’s finding positive ways to regulate emotions and release energy.
🤝 It’s developing trust, communication and relationships.
⭐ And sometimes, it’s discovering you’re good at something you never thought you could do.

For young people who may not have always experienced success within education, those moments really matter.

We’re incredibly proud of the way our students continue to challenge themselves, try new things and recognise what their bodies and minds are capable of.

At The Lighthouse, PE isn’t about being the best. It’s about finding your thing, having a go and building from there. ❤️

🌟 THREE GOALS. ONE SIMPLE TRADITION. A WHOLE LOT OF BELIEF. 🌟

At The Lighthouse, one of the most important things we can give our young people is something that many of them may have struggled to hold onto before they came to us:

Belief in themselves. ❤️

Every September, we ask each of our students and staff to set themselves three goals for the year ahead.

They don’t have to be huge.

They don’t have to be purely academic.

They simply need to mean something to them.

We write those goals down, put them away and don’t open them again until our Year 11s’ final day with us, usually in the last week of June.

And the lovely part?

By then, most of them have completely forgotten what they wrote! 😂

But year after year, when we open them again, something pretty special happens…

They realise that, more often than not, they have achieved them. ❤️

For some young people, setting goals and imagining a positive future can feel incredibly difficult. Children who have experienced trauma, adversity, rejection or repeated experiences of feeling that they have “failed” can sometimes protect themselves by simply not trying.

Because if you don’t believe you can succeed, setting yourself a goal can feel frightening.

That’s why we keep it small.

Three achievable goals.

Three opportunities to experience success.

Three chances to look back and say:

“I did that.”

Trauma-informed practice isn’t about lowering expectations for our young people. It’s about understanding what sits underneath their behaviour, recognising the experiences they bring with them and creating opportunities for them to experience success safely.

Every small achievement helps build something bigger: confidence, pride, resilience, self-worth and hope.

And slowly, “I can’t do that” can become “maybe I can.”

Then one day…

“Look what I did.” ❤️

At The Lighthouse, we don’t expect perfection.

We celebrate progress.

We believe in our students, particularly on the days when they might struggle to believe in themselves.

And we can’t wait to see what this year’s three goals will become. 🌟

🌟 Join Our Compassionate Team – Maths Instructor Wanted 🌟

📍 Location: The Lighthouse School, Easton
🕒 Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
💷 Salary: Competitive pay scale, dependent on experience and qualifications

Are you passionate about maths but, more importantly, passionate about helping young people believe that they can succeed?

At The Lighthouse School, we are a trauma-informed, attachment-aware school supporting young people who may have experienced significant adversity, disrupted education, SEND, SEMH needs or difficulties accessing mainstream education.

We are looking for a Maths Instructor to join our compassionate, skilled and slightly unconventional team.

For many of our students, maths hasn’t always been a subject they feel confident about. We’re looking for someone who can change that.

🌱 About The Lighthouse

Relationships and emotional wellbeing sit at the heart of everything we do.

Our students learn in a small, supportive environment where education is adapted around the needs of the young person. We recognise that a child needs to feel safe, understood and valued before they can truly engage in learning.

Our aim isn’t simply to teach maths — it is to help young people develop confidence, independence and the practical skills they will need beyond school.

➗ Your Role Will Include:

* Delivering engaging and accessible maths lessons to individuals and small groups
* Supporting students working across a range of abilities and starting points
* Delivering and supporting Functional Skills Maths, where appropriate
* Helping students develop practical, real-world maths skills including money, budgeting, measurements and problem solving
* Adapting teaching to meet individual SEND and SEMH needs
* Breaking learning into manageable steps for students who may have gaps in their education
* Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
* Creating a calm, predictable and emotionally safe learning environment
* Celebrating progress and helping students rebuild confidence in their own abilities
* Working collaboratively with our teaching, SEND and pastoral teams
* Contributing to assessments, progress monitoring and individual learning plans

👤 We’d Love to Hear From You If You:

* Have experience teaching, tutoring or delivering maths to children or young people
* Have a strong knowledge and confidence in mathematics
* Understand that behaviour is communication and are willing to look beyond the behaviour to understand the young person
* Can adapt your approach rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way
* Are patient, compassionate and consistent
* Have excellent communication skills
* Can bring creativity and real-life relevance into maths lessons
* Are reflective, resilient and able to work as part of a close-knit team
* Genuinely believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed

Experience of working with SEND, SEMH, trauma, looked-after children or young people who have experienced disrupted education would be particularly welcomed.

🎓 Qualifications & Pay

We recognise that brilliant educators come through different routes.

We therefore welcome applications from candidates with a range of relevant qualifications and professional experience, including experienced instructors, tutors, teachers and professionals with strong maths knowledge who are passionate about working differently with young people.

Salary will be offered on a pay scale reflective of the successful candidate’s qualifications, teaching/instructional experience and relevant specialist experience.

💖 What We Offer

* Small class sizes and highly individualised learning
* A supportive and collaborative staff team
* A genuinely relationship-based approach to education
* Ongoing training in trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice
* Opportunities for professional development and progression
* A school culture that values staff wellbeing, mental health and kindness
* The freedom to be creative with learning and make maths relevant to real life
* Most importantly, the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people who may not previously have experienced success in education

☕ Come and Meet Us

We understand that The Lighthouse is a little different from a traditional school — and we’re proud of that.

We warmly welcome potential applicants to visit us, meet the team and see our approach in practice before applying.

🌟 Sometimes the most important thing we teach a young person isn’t the answer — it’s the belief that they are capable of finding it.

What a wonderful way to end the term. We had a trip to London, giving our amazing students an opportunity to put into practice some of the things they have learned through their Passport to Independence programme. Planning a route, purchasing train tickets and negotiating the underground. We enjoyed watching Hamilton, which brought together teaching from a multitude of subjects. What was by far the most humbling and gratifying experience for me was watching our students close in and care for and protect each other. We are not just a school, we are a family and today was testament to the empathy, sensitivity and warmth our students demonstrate. Have a great Easter all. See you on the 17th 💙🤍💡🏡

When students miss large portions of schooling, they often miss crucial milestones, like swimming, which are essential to their safety, especially living in Norfolk. The Lighthouse are committed to ensuring that our students catch up on as much of their missed education as possible. We have been working with Sportspark UEA to provide a first class physical education package. On Tuesday, all students at The Lighthouse received their 50 metre swimming certificates, many in more than one swimming style. This is a huge milestone and we applaud their efforts. Thank you too, to Danny Belletty, for working so hard to put this package together and making it work for us.
