Did somebody say...SPLASH PAD?!! 🥳💦

It’s officially open! With sunny weather on the way for half term, there’s no better time for outdoor fun. Norwich families can now enjoy splashing, spraying and jumping around at the brand‑new and improved splash pad in Waterloo Park - ready for plenty of high‑energy fun. 🌞

The refreshed splash pad brings a bright, modern space for children to play, explore and cool off - right in the heart of the city.

What’s new?

✅ Inclusive and accessible water play features
✅ Water-efficient technology, helping reduce consumption and saving an estimated £10,000–£12,000 each year
✅ A vibrant new design that complements the recently upgraded play area

Designed for everyone:

• Bright colours to support visually impaired users
• High-contrast buttons and water jets
• Large, easy-to-use floor-mounted activation buttons with light-touch sensitivity
• No standing water for added safety
• A mix of gentle and more playful jets—perfect for toddlers and less confident children
• Fully accessible for children of all abilities

We can’t wait to see families enjoying this fantastic new addition - come along, cool off, and make a splash this half term at Waterloo Park! 💙

Norwich has officially welcomed a new Lord Mayor and Sheriff following this week’s full council meeting at City Hall.

Councillor Karen Davis has been appointed Lord Mayor of Norwich for the 2026 to 2027 civic year, taking over from Councillor Paul Kendrick. Dave Shraga has been named the new Sheriff of Norwich, succeeding Stuart Wright. Councillor Gary Champion will serve as Deputy Lord Mayor.

The historic ceremonial roles represent Norwich at civic and public events, support local charities and help champion the city and its communities.

Councillor Davis has represented Town Close ward since 2016 and is well known locally for running the Bread and Roses community café. Alongside her council work, she has supported people to build confidence and independence through practical learning and community support.

Speaking after her appointment, the new Lord Mayor said: “It is an immense honour to represent the city of Norwich, and I hope to bring enthusiasm and humility to the role and help make Norwich a fair and inclusive city for all.”

Dave Shraga brings experience in business, accessibility advocacy and community leadership to the role of Sheriff. He is director of specialist wheelchair glove company Grippitz and chairperson of Inclusive Norwich, supporting greater accessibility and inclusion across Norwich and Norfolk.

Dave said: “I am incredibly proud and honoured to become Sheriff of Norwich and look forward to serving the city and supporting the communities that make Norwich so special.”

Congratulations to the new Lord Mayor, Sheriff and Deputy Lord Mayor as they begin their civic year serving Norwich.

Norwich City Council has a legal duty to make sure memorials in our cemeteries are safe for visitors, staff and contractors. As part of this responsibility, we carry out memorial safety inspections through a rolling inspection programme.

We estimate that there are more than 50,000 headstones which will need testing and these are located mainly in the Earlham and Rosary cemeteries, but also a few in some closed churchyards.

The testing will take place over the next 2-3 years and will continue on a rolling basis.

If a memorial has been identified as unstable following a safety inspection, it may have been fitted with a yellow tag to make visitors aware. We understand this can be upsetting for families and loved ones, but these measures are necessary to help keep everyone safe.

We've put together some frequently asked questions, you'll find a link in the comments.
