In February we learnt about birds...we listened for them outside and we read stories, we coloured birds and made a nest and bird feeders. We went to the castle museum and looked at the birds in the bird gallery. We also talked about the moon and went to the library, we baked and practiced scissor skills.

JANUARY 2026!!
We looked at hibernation and continued to look at snow and ice. We painted with blue and white. We talked about and learnt about the moon and darkness. We played in the dark den with torches and fairy lights and we visited the cattle museum to look at the polar bear and penguins. We played outside and went to toddler groups

In November we talked about fireworks and fire, Frost and spiders! We touched the cold frost and played with animals stuck in ice. We threaded legs on spiders and counted them, we drew webs and read stories outside

October!....
We read lots of autumnal books outside, we explored pumpkins and the colour orange with leaf prints and hand and finger prints.
We visited the allotment and picked apples and dug up potatoes. We brought the potatoes home and cooked them for our lunch.
We went to the park, the cathedral and toddler groups

Now we feel it is time to say goodbye to the autumn and hello to the winter!

September was a big one! My son started school and ny daughter started university. We have had a new baby settle in and what a little trooper she has been!
We have read stories in the woods, collected conkers and leaves and learned about owls. We have even been very lucky and been able to have a close look inside some owl pellets!
We have had a birthday and made a birthday cake together! We have played with play dough sung songs with the parachute underneath the trees and chalked on black paper. What a brilliant and eventful month!

July gave us lots of sunshine, we painted outside alot, looked for bees and ladybirds, played in water and on the trampo...

July gave us lots of sunshine, we painted outside alot, looked for bees and ladybirds, played in water and on the trampoline. We went to the allotment and the woods and grandads garden. We had alot of fun! When it rained (which was rare!!) We looked for snails.

In June we learnt about the butterfly life cycle. We read the very hungry caterpillar and talked about healthy and not healthy foods. We watched our own caterpillars grow and get bigger and bigger, turn into cocoons and then butterflies! We made fruit kebabs and painted caterpillars and butterflies. We pretended to be butterflies with wings and we flew with the parachute. We made perfume from flowers and picked cherries from our tree to eat for snack 😃

In May we talked about growing, we planted potatoes, corn and beans and we read Jack and the beanstalk. We measured beanstalks and watched until they reached the castle (which was remarkably quick!)
We practiced yoga, went to the library and the castle and did lots of counting and measuring
We also read the very lazy ladybird and practiced our animal sounds! Oink oink! ,😂🫛🫘 🌽

In April we spent a lot of time outside! In the garden, the woods, the allotment and the park. We have tadpoles that we are observing and by the end of the month they had legs!!! We painted frogspawn using bubble wrap, played with minty green play dough, read books and looked for nests in the woods and practiced some yoga!
We continued to search for signs of spring, we painted with the colour yellow and had opportunities to practice our fine motor skills with our pencil control.

In March we started to.look for signs of spring!
We chalked and painted rainbows and blossom trees, we walked in the woods, read stories and collected flowers using our colour wheel. We visited a flower stall and bought some flowers. We went to toddler groups, the castle and a play cafe! We hung scarves in the garden, made pancakes, mother's day gifts and practiced our dot to dot skill!!!

During February we talked about the moon and the stars we learnt about the moons different phases, we painted moons and read stories about stars in the woods!
We played with glow in the dark stars in water.
We played with light and colour with paint dabbers and our overhead projector and coloured film.
We read stories indoors and outdoors, we listened for the birds in the woods and identified them with the merlin app and looked at pictures of the birds we could hear
We visited the zoo and the castle in half term!

We have been learning about the cold cold winter.❄️❄️❄️
We have dressed up paper dolls in their winter clothes, painted with blue and silver paint, spraying and using our hands and brushes.
We have played with fake snow and ice exploring how COLD it feels on our hands!
We've also drawn with light! And make a dark rocket den we used coloured lights inside! We have visited the library and been to toddler groups where we have cooperated, shared and took it in turns.
