Our Book of the Week is 'The Lacuna' by Barbara Kingsolver. This award winning novel, set in Mexico in 1935, follows the story of Harrison Shepherd, who works as a cook and secretary in the household of famed muralist Diego Rivera and his wife Frida Kahlo. Then exiled Bolshevik leader Lev Trotsky arrives on the scene and his aim for an invisible life is thwarted forever.

Recommended by one of our regular volunteers, this is a moving read.

We are excited to announce we have an Autumn Art Competition for everyone to enter. It is running over October half term.

You will get a small prize for entering, last date of entry is 31st Oct at 12 noon. The winners and runners up will get additional prizes and will be notified via email, after the holiday. We will have a People's Choice Winner in addition, so do pop in and take a look and vote for your favourite, once all the entries are in.

There are different age groups: Toddlers (under 4), Children 5-17) and Adults.
The Art categories are: Crafted creations, Digital (NO AI) or Photography (both 35mm film and digital).
The theme is "Autumn".

Our Book of the Week is 'The Marmalade Diaries,' by Ben Aitken. When hunting for a room in London, Ben came across one for a great price in a lovely part of town. There had to be a catch. And there was. The catch was Winnie: an 85-year-old widow who doesn't suffer fools. A story of an unlikely friendship that flourished during lockdown.

This book is recommended by one of our regular volunteers, who says 'a heart-warming and more-ish comfort read, you wont want to leave this welcoming world of marmalade and friendship.'

Our Book of the Week this week is 'The Burnout' by Sophie Kinsella. Armed with good intentions to cleanse and relax, Sasha heads off to the Devon resort she loved as a child. But it's off-season, the hotel is falling apart and she has to share the beach with a grumpy, stressed-out guy called Finn. How can she commune with nature when he's sitting on a rock, watching her suspiciously?
