New campaign start date: September 3rd at 4pm-5.30pm, followed by our optional but exciting new element, The Story Tellers Guild! Discuss ideas for your own campaign, get tips and feedback and contribute to the naming of realms that the Dragon Slayers will be journeying through!

Summer Reading Challenge Medal Ceremony
Tuesday 1st September

We know it's only just the start of the summer holidays, but we're already getting excited for our Summer Reading Challenge Medal Ceremony!

It will take place on Tuesday 1st September at Mile Cross Library. There will be two sessions (you only need to come to one!):
4.00-4.30 and 4.45-5.15.

Please arrive 10 minutes early so we can keep everything running smoothly 😎

Who's children are wanting to take part in the (always free of charge) Summer Reading Challenge 2026 - Read to the Beat? All you need to do is come in while we are staffed, so today until 7pm or tomorrow from 10-4 are your next chances, and tell us they want to enter. We click a few button, hand over a booklet and a sticker chart then it's up to you, they just need to read (or have read to them) six books over the summer holidays, any books they want! Minecraft, Pokemon, Dogman, Harry Potter, Roald Dahl, anything they are inspired to read and enjoy! They'll return to school in September with more reading skills and have an smoother transition to their next level of education! Pop in any time to find out more.

One hour till we launch our taster session of the new Dungeons & Dragons club at Mile Cross Library, see you there, unless the Banshees of Hellesdon or the Warlocks of Tuckswood haven't blocked the only path through the forest of stone.......

Hey lovely people of Mile Cross and other realms! Starting in a couple of weeks we are proud to launch our new Dungeons & Dragons club, Dragon Slayers!

Launch event is on Thursday 16th July 4pm-5:30pm, come along and discover what the game is like, chat to an experienced Dungeon Master, build your own character profile and even contribute to creating the world the first campaign will take place in.

The first campaign will begin a week later on Thursday 23rd July 4pm-5:30, and will take place each Thursday at the same time until the conclusion on August 13th.

Who knows how this will go, unless you are there you'll never know! So are you ready to cast a spell, look kindly on a wandering hermit, offer food to the witch or shelter the injured traveller from the storm? You choose your own journey while the dungeon master turns your adventure into an amazing story!

No need to book, just turn up in the library for a five minute chat, tutorial and create your character on July 16th, it's going to be epic!

We had the pleasure of meeting Malcolm last year when he was travelling round the county visiting as many libraries as he could on public transport alone, along with some other crazy trips. He is a total diamond and has so many stories! If you have time available on July 29th, why not pop into Plumstead Rd library and listen to some tall tales that are all true from this lovely man? Details below.

Incoming News Klaxon! The one of a kind Norfolk traversing icon, Malcolm Metcalf, is coming to Plumstead Road Library as a guest of our lovely Library Friends Group on Wednesday July 29th at 2pm. He will be giving a talk about an adventure he set himself on a few years back. 90 Challenges in My 90th Year is Malcolm's rollercoaster story of doing 90 different things in a year for the first or only time, some are quite eye opening! If you've heard about Malcolm you know you are in for a treat, if you haven't then let me assure you, Mr Metcalf is the classic, nay consummate Norfolk raconteur with the most endearing and enthusiastic way about him. You will not fail to be charmed! Malcolm raises money for the wonderful work done at Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity

Hi all, our regular Bounce and Rhyme session won't be taking place this Friday as our lovely volunteer Sue cannot be with us. As the weather is set to be incredibly hot, we can offer you a big jug of cold water to offset the heat, but will totally understand if you choose to spend your morning not needing to fight your way to the library. We'll miss you though and will be looking forward to seeing you all again on Friday 3rd of July ready to wind up those bobbins and check the imaginary drainpipes for wet spiders. Keep cool!
