Norwich City Council, working in partnership with Norfolk County Council’s Flood Management Team, is continuing to make progress on carefully planned improvements to Lion Wood, the city’s only ancient woodland. Our fantastic volunteers spent this morning clearing fallen trees from paths. Some of the trees were VERY large and had been there a while so it's great that access has been improved. Litter was also picked up, some invasive plants (like wild garlic) removed by hand and holly clipped away from paths. An excellent result for everyone who uses the woods.

Have you heard about the project to improve the central path between Wellesley Ave North & South? If you haven't done so already, please fill in the council's survey: https://gettalking.norwich.gov.uk/lionwood

Thanks to the generosity of one of our members, we have been able to purchase a good quality wild Crab Apple sapling from Habitat Aid. The tree arrived yesterday and was planted immediately. According to old reports, there used to be an old Crab Apple tree on the site where we have planted the new one. Look out for it in the main valley. We hope it will provide a good source of food for wildlife and enjoyment for all for many years to come.

Our amazing Lion Wood Conservation Group volunteers laid woodchip on two very muddy areas yesterday. Hard work wheelbarrowing and raking but great fun! Thanks to Norwich Fringe Project and https://pasktreecare.co.uk/ for the woodchip deliveries.
