Norfolk County Council Farms

Norfolk County Council Farms Welcome to the official Norfolk County Farms page. We'll keep you updated on what we're doing For the people of Norfolk there are also other benefits.

Norfolk County Council’s County Farms Estate extends to over 16,962 acres of farmland across the county of Norfolk, and is let to over 145 tenants. The Estate provides a means of entry into farming for new entrants wishing to farm on their own account and can also provide opportunities for existing farm businesses on the Estate to grow. For farm tenants, the Estate offers an increasingly rare oppo

rtunity to follow a career in farming and these family-run farms on the Estate add to the diversity of rural communities in Norfolk as well as supporting the local economy. The Estate is also used to help meet the County Council’s sustainable development commitments through:

- Providing a framework for local produce, goods and services,
- Sustaining and creating rural employment,
- Developing business opportunities throughout the County,
- Improving and developing access for recreation and education,
- Creating and improving biodiversity,
- Providing land for affordable housing. The majority of farms are in some form of environmental management which increases biodiversity, improves the landscape or preserves the historic landscape of Norfolk and provides opportunities for new public access. The County Farms Estate contributes to the beautiful and diverse countryside and farming landscapes and helps make the county a more attractive place to live, work and play, whilst making it a popular destination for tourists who bring money to the region.
