Meet Polly, a musically minded celebrant registrar who always brings a huge smile & plenty of enthusiasm to every ceremony. Let’s get to know her better…
🔸How long have you been working in Norfolk as a celebrant registrar?🔸
3.5 years
🔸What is your most memorable ceremony?🔸
I’ll never forgot one very special ceremony that was held outdoors, under the bough of an old oak tree, with just the couple and witnesses. The couple danced down the grass ‘aisle’ together, to a piece of music written specially by the groom; and as they arrived at the front, the sun came out! The couple also shared some personal vows with each other; one of which was a self-penned poem. It was a very moving and beautiful moment.
🔸What is your favourite part of the job?🔸
I love that no two ceremonies are the same - even at the same venue - it’s the couple and their guests that bring the vibe. Sometimes the unexpected can happen (such as rings flying onto the ground, or owls flying the wrong way!), which adds to the excitement. Conducting ceremonies also means that I get to meet people that I might not otherwise have met, from all walks of life.
🔸What other job or hobbies do you have?🔸
I’m a professionally qualified musician and tutor of piano, clarinet and saxophone. As you can imagine, this keeps me very busy, whether I’m teaching or in rehearsals! I recently performed a new work by a local composer, with a group at the Norwich Puppet Theatre, which was lots of fun. I also enjoy playing social badminton and even took part in a fun tournament recently.
🔸What is your top tip for couples who have a ceremony booked?🔸
Take a deep breath, relax and aim to be as present in the moment as you can. I’d also recommend reading through the legal words in the script beforehand - really absorb the true meaning of those words - as it’s speaking those two special sets of words that will make you “partners for life”.
