Only half way through October but we continue to be extremely busy. Crews have attended a number of incidents including fires, alarm activations and road traffic collisions. We've also engaged with Misterton Primary and Nursery School, Everton Primary School and Gringley primary school supporting their work on the Great Fire of London, People Who Help Us and a careers week. And we even managed to squeeze in a District Exercise - simulating a chemical leak in Retford Town centre (Retford Fire Station, Worksop Fire Station and Stockhill Fire Station) and a charity car wash!
We can only serve our communities, with all the above duties, if we have sufficient firefighters available and that's where we struggle. Without fire fighters being available to respond, an appliance will have to travel from Retford or Harworth which means a delay. Over the next few weeks we will be gearing up for our recruitment process and if we want to maintain a local emergency response to incidents within our communities we need to recruit more personnel.
