📄 A survey has been launched to find out which areas matter most to the public when it comes to improving safety in the city centre.

Operation Reclaim is a collaborative multi-agency project to solve the biggest problems affecting Nottingham City Centre including youth ASB, drug dealing, aggressive begging, rough sleeping, weapon-carrying, illegal e-bikes and retail crime.

🏙️ Whether you live in the city centre or just visiting to work or meet up with friends, we want to hear from you to make sure we are putting our resources into the areas causing you the biggest concerns.

⏰ The survey only takes a few minutes to fill out, but must be completed by 19 June.

We are investigating a break-in at a building site and have released images of a man we would like to trace.

Around £3,000 worth of tools were stolen from a property that is undergoing renovation work in Bath Street, near Sneinton Market.

A window was smashed to gain entry at some point over the early May Bank Holiday Weekend (May 1-4).

We believe the man in this image will be able to assist with our enquiries.

PC Ben Cunningham, who is leading the investigation, said: "Having reviewed local CCTV, we have identified a man seen wheeling a large bin down the street in the vicinity of the break-in.

"It is important we speak to the man as part of our inquiries into this report.

"We appreciate the images are not of the best quality but we are hopeful the man will recognise himself and come forward.

"Equally, if you think you know who he is from his clothing or footwear, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 26*257498.

A serial shoplifter has been jailed just weeks after receiving a suspended sentence for theft.

Natalie Sawyer, 40, of Argyle Street, Radford admitted stealing on nine occasions between 26 March and 23 May.

The offences were committed whilst she was on release from prison on licence, having previously been convicted of other shoplifting offences.

Despite being subject to strict conditions, Sawyer was caught on CCTV stealing from stores in Nottingham city centre, Radford, Lenton and Castle Marina.

Among the businesses she targeted were Tesco Express, Sainsbury's Local, Savers and Homesense.

She was arrested after being tracked down by PCSO Emily Fisk and PCSO Simon Morris, who are part of our City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team.

At Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (27 May), Swayer admitted nine shoplifting offences – adding to the 34 previous convictions on her record for theft and other offences since 2020.

On this occasion, magistrates sentenced her to 12 weeks in prison.

She must also pay compensation to the stores she targeted.

PC Phil Yates, who specialises in tackling retail crime, said: "Swayer has been a prolific offender in Nottingham and demonstrated a clear disregard for the law.

"This is despite being offered access to a raft of support measures designed to help offenders break the cycle of addition and crime.

"Sadly Sawyer has refused to engage with these programmes and has now found herself back behind bars, having committed a string of further shop thefts.

"We recognise the impact that this offending has on local businesses and so we will continue catching offenders like Sawyer and ensure they are prosecuted."

The sentencing follows the launch of Op Reclaim, a partnership approach to relentlessly targeting criminals who use the city centre to commit crime.

We are using the Home Office tactic called Clear, Hold, Build, where we make the environment as hostile as possible for criminals to operate and ensure the vacuum cannot be filled once they are arrested and charged.

As part of the scheme, a survey has been launched to find out where the public would like us to pool our resources to improve safety in the city centre.

The survey closes on June 19. To take part, please visit: https://orlo.uk/EEDW0

A suspect was chased down by officers following an assault at a city centre bar.

Our officers were patrolling Old Market Square in the early hours of Sunday (24 May) when they were flagged down by door staff at a nearby bar.

The door staff reported an assault that had just happened at a bar in St James's Street and pointed out a suspect to the officers.

When officers approached the man, he ran off but was successfully detained a short distance away.

The 34-year-old was arrested and taken into custody.

Officers then attended the bar and found two victims receiving treatment by paramedics.

Both were taken to hospital.

The suspect was questioned on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and bailed with conditions.

Enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing.

The arrest follows the launch of Operation Reclaim, a partnership approach to relentlessly targeting criminals who use the city centre to commit crime.

We are using the Home Office tactic called Clear, Hold, Build, where we make the environment as hostile as possible for criminals to operate and ensure the vacuum cannot be filled once they are arrested and charged.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies said: "We launched Operation Reclaim as we are acutely aware the impact that crime has had on people wanting to come into Nottingham city centre.

"That includes those looking to enjoy a safe night out and we are committed to working with partners to reduce violence in the night-time economy.

"Nottingham is a vibrant city and we will not stand for any behaviour that stops people being able to enjoy the wonderful nightlife that's on offer here.

"It's vital people feel safe within the city centre and so we will continue patrolling the streets and responding to incidents such as this.

"We are fortunate to have strong partnerships with local businesses and would like to thank the door staff for bringing this incident to our attention."

We’re currently seeing an increase in calls about general noise, such as loud music, garden gatherings, or neighbour disturbances. While we understand these situations can be frustrating, many noise concerns are not police matters and are usually best dealt with by your local council.

Your local council’s environmental health team has the powers to assess and take action where needed.

There are some circumstances where police involvement may be necessary, such as if noise is linked to anti-social behaviour in a public place, or if there is evidence of crime or an immediate risk to safety.

By contacting the right service first, you can help ensure your issue is resolved more quickly and keep the 101 and 999 lines free for those who need them most.

👉 For more information on nuisance noise and what to do, visit: https://orlo.uk/2yweo

🔎 Find your local council page here: https://orlo.uk/8WKoI

📞 Always call 999 in an emergency, where there is a threat to life or crime in progress.

Thank you for your understanding.

🚖 We’re not “fare-ing” around when it comes to illegal parking! 🚖

Officers from NPT3 have once again teamed up with local Taxi Licensing Officers for a second joint operation aimed at tackling the ongoing issue of illegal and dangerous taxi parking across the city.

Building on the success of the first operation, this collaborative effort has once again delivered positive results.

During the patrols, over 15 vehicles were checked, with drivers dealt with for a range of offences including illegal parking and failing to display the appropriate licensing documents required by law.

As a result of the operation:

✅ 3 DIPPS (Driver Improvement Penalty Points Scheme) issued
✅ 6 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued

These targeted operations are part of our continued commitment to improving safety, ensuring compliance, and maintaining standards within the licensed taxi trade.

The officer leading the operation said:

“Working closely with our Taxi Licensing colleagues allows us to proactively address concerns that directly impact public safety. These joint operations send a clear message that we will not tolerate illegal or unsafe practices, and we will continue to carry out enforcement to keep our communities safe.”

We thank those drivers who continue to operate within the law and support these standards.
