We champion, support and enable Reserve Forces and Cadets in the East Midlands. Our people add value.

CADETS AND YOUTH
We raise the profile of the adventures and achievements of Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and RAF Air Cadets in the East Midlands. For the Army Cadets, we also provide the support staff who maintain facilities, equipment and transport that enables their activity to take place, and support the recruitment of volunteers. ENGAGEMENT
On a national level, we are responsible for advising and assisting the Defence Council, the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force on matters that concern Reserves and Cadets. Regionally, we build strong relationships – especially with employers through the Armed Forces Covenant and Defence Employer Recognition Scheme – to ensure the value of the Armed Forces community is recognised and that they are offered every opportunity to maximise their potential. Our volunteer members include representatives from local authorities, a wide variety of employers, charities, education, Cadet services and the military who act as local ambassadors. Together, we work to promote the value of, and recognition of, the Armed Forces community. Another key area of our work is to raise the awareness and understanding of both Reserves and Cadets in the East Midlands. ESTATES
We maintain 135 sites across the East Midlands to ensure Reserves and Cadets have safe and fit-for-purpose training facilities. We also generate additional revenue through the Alternative Venues hire programme which is re-invested to further benefit Reserves and Cadets.

The Cadet Forces provide young people with skills, confidence and discipline, and there was plenty of that on show at last week's Tri-Service Drill Competition held in Nottingham.

Congratulations to 384 (Mansfield) Squadron on being crowned best overall squad and well done to every team for their hard work and dedication.

Hosted by Nottingham Sea Cadets, the competition welcomed His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Professor Veronica Pickering OBE MBS HAC and other VIP guests to witness the great teamwork and precision of movement on display from Nottinghamshire's very best.

Sobraon Barracks hosted a special evening of recognition in Lincolnshire last night.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire's Awards night took place, with honours for standout Cadets and Volunteers.

Honours for Cadets and Volunteers in Derbyshire.

His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, held her annual awards ceremony this week to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of Cadets and Volunteers.

Congratulations to the newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets:

The Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland's Awards 🏆

Congratulations to the county's newly appointed Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets and the latest Meritorious Service Award recipient.

For 2026/27, His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, has appointed the following as her Cadet Force representatives:

Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major Birch (Uppingham School Combined Cadet Force)
Cadet Sergeant Smith (Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force)
Cadet Flight Sergeant Ormandy (2248 Squadron (Rutland) Air Cadets)

A Certificate of Meritorious Service was also presented to Staff Sergeant Lee Allen, of 1st Military Working Dog Regiment, St George's Barracks, for performing the role of Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant for over a decade with exceptional dedication and professionalism.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland's 2026 Awards were once more held at the Rutland Showground in Oakham.

A guest speech from Wing Commander Joan Ochuodho and performances from the Cadets helped to make the night a memorable and inspiring occasion.
