Eastwood’s mining history and pubs go hand in hand. Many miners spent the little free time they had above ground in the town’s pubs, socialising and telling tales that have been passed down through generations.

The Pits to Pints trail combines the two, giving you access to exclusive images and facts from the town’s past, while taking in some of Eastwood’s best pubs, micropubs, and real ale houses.

This project is funded by East Midlands Combined County Authority and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and sponsored by trentbartonland.

🚛 Eastwood Bulky Waste Day – Monday 5 October

Knapp Avenue: 8.00am to 9.30am
Princes Street: 10.00am to 11.30am

Our refuse teams will be on hand to collect furniture, mattresses, electrical items, kitchen appliances, broken toys and play equipment.

❗Please note: Due to a national issue, we are currently unable to collect any fridges or freezers.

Help will be available at each location to assist residents in getting items to the collection vehicles. Please note that teams cannot enter properties to collect items.

Nominations Open for the 2027 Broxtowe Voluntary Awards
07/09/2026 - The Broxtowe Voluntary Awards return for 2027, with nominations now open across a variety of categories.

Volunteers give so much of their free time, effort, and energy without ever asking for anything back. The Broxtowe Voluntary Awards give us all the chance to recognise these people’s contributions to their communities across the Borough, with anyone able to nominate someone they feel should be honoured and celebrated for their work.2027 Broxtowe Voluntary Awards poster showing an image of a trophy alongside pictures from the previous year's event

The Awards are split into 8 categories:

Young Volunteer Award – for those under 18 who’ve given their time and effort to benefit their community.

Community Hero Award – for those who have demonstrated that they have gone above and beyond for their community as a whole, or for an individual neighbour.

Community Events and Culture Award – recognising volunteers who bring people together through community events, arts, culture, heritage, and local traditions.

Sport and Wellbeing Award – for volunteers who inspire others to be active, healthy, and engaged through sport, physical activity, or wellbeing initiatives.
Green Community Award – recognising those who help keep Broxtowe clean, green, and sustainable through environmental projects, litter picking, conservation, or community gardening activities.

Benefitting Broxtowe Award – for the volunteer who has made a demonstratable impact on a large area of Broxtowe or who has implemented something that has benefited a substantial number of residents.

And new for 2027:

Bringing People Together Award – for volunteers who bring people together, reduce isolation, and help create more inclusive, welcoming, and connected communities.

Older people’s Champion Award – for those who have improved the lives, wellbeing, or independence of older people in Broxtowe.

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to a ceremony in March 2027, where the winners will be presented with their awards by the Mayor of Broxtowe,

As Mayor, I’m proud that they give me the chance to recognise and honour those people who transform lives by selflessly volunteering to help others. Gain free entry to the birthplace of one England’s greatest authors with Heritage Open Days

04/09/2026 - This September, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13, the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum will be welcoming visitors for free as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days.

The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is where the literary legend was born on 11 September 1885. Only 30 minutes from Nottingham city centre, the museum is a must see for fans of literature, and for those wanting to delve deeper into Nottingham’s literary heritage.Museum staff in Victorian dress tipping his hat at reception.

Step back in time to experience the traditional Victorian wash house, see the parlour; a room only for special guests, and have a wander around the parental and other bedrooms. The museum’s permanent exhibition features items from Lawrence’s family and even paintings created by the author himself.

Museum staff and volunteers will be on hand throughout the day, in traditional Victorian dress, showing live demonstrations in the wash house and to provide extra depth and knowledge to visitor’s understanding of Lawrence and Victorian life in Eastwood.
Curator of the museum’s current exhibition, ‘The Optimist’s Incomplete’ Su’ur Su’eddie Vershima Agema will be performing poetry readings throughout the day too.

Portfolio Holder for Health and Leisure, Councillor Teresa Cullen, said, “For those that haven’t yet managed to visit the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum, this is a fantastic opportunity to come and see what it’s all about, and take a deep dive into our local culture”
“The museum staff and volunteers do such an incredible job curating and maintaining the museum. They’re always on hand to answer any questions visitors have with their wealth of Lawrence and local knowledge and this is a big part of why the museum is loved by people near and far. It really is such a gem that I feel all Broxtowe residents should come and visit!”

Museum and Collections Officer, Carolyn Melbourne, said, “Heritage Open Days are a great opportunity for people to visit the museum for free, and while it is a national initiative, what it seems to achieve best is getting people to explore what is on their own doorstep. We often take for granted what is in our own locality; Heritage Open Days give us the chance to remedy that.”
The museum will be welcoming visitors for free from 10:00am – 4:00pm on both Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September.
