Rushcliffe Borough Council has issued a notice of election relating to the vacancy following the resignation of Cllr Iris Morgan.

Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Friday 23rd October to submit nomination papers.

If more than two prospective candidates submit a nomination, then an election will take place on Thursday 19th November.

The amazing Coffee Morning Team will be hosting a special event for Macmillan Cancer Support charity on Friday 6th November from 10:30am to 12:30pm in the Upper Saxondale village hall.

There’ll be lots of scrumptious homemade cakes and hot drinks. So please come along, bring your family and friends, and help raise funds to support the work of Macmillan.

Rushcliffe Borough Council has just shared this post about the current Parish Councillor vacancies. Village resident Richard Ellis has been elected unopposed to one of the vacancies but there is still one vacancy. Prospective candidates have until 4pm on Friday 23 October to submit nomination papers. More details in the original post, along with a link to RBC's website giving contact details for applications.

🗳️ Requests have been received for an election to take place to fill the two vacancies to Upper Saxondale Parish Council.

The nomination period has now closed and Richard Ellis has been elected unopposed to one of the vacancies. A by election is required to fill the other vacancy and prospective candidates have until 4pm on Friday 23 October to submit nomination papers.

An update from our Borough Councillor Debbie Soloman - RBC who attended the Parish Council meeting on Monday 12th October. When the USPC minutes are available, they will be published on the village website, page and paper copies posted on the 3 noticeboards.

📍 UPPER SAXONDALE PARISH COUNCIL – RECENT MEETING
Earlier this week, I attended the Upper Saxondale Parish Council meeting and gave my usual Borough Councillor update, covering:

🚌 Save Our Bus Stop Campaign – Progress on the campaign to retain the A52 bus stop serving Upper Saxondale residents.

🚧 Potholes – An update on progress with pothole issues around the village (potholes are and Nottinghamshire County Council issue, not RBC).

🏍️ Motorbikes – Raised concerns about increasing reports of motorbikes travelling through the village, causing noise and disruption.

🏘️ Local Plan & Housing – The Planning Inspector has approved the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan (GNSP), but work is already starting on the next plan (!) by RBC officers, which will require further site allocations to accommodate increasing housing development.

🚧 Traveller Encampments – An update on the nearby traveller issues and progress towards a resolution.

👮 Police Update – At the meeting we also heard from a local police officer, who confirmed that crime levels in Upper Saxondale remain low. There have also been successful arrests across Rushcliffe relating to the illegal or inappropriate use of e-scooters and e-bikes.

Other matters discussed by the Parish Council included:

📱 Facebook communications – The existing Hub page will become the Parish Council's page, with a new Upper Saxondale community group being created.

🌐 New logo, emails and website – Decisions made, with the new website aiming to go live in December.

🏠 Village Hall heating.

🛝 Play park inspections.

🌳 Woodland fire risk assessment – now completed.

🪨 Memorial stone – agreed to relocate it to the pergola.

🙋 Volunteer policy.

⚽ Goalposts on Pimlico Fields.

🌿 Hedge maintenance – specific hedge agreed.

💧 Waterbutts at the ‘Willow’ meadow – agreed to relocate these.

Please note: This is just my own summary of some of the matters discussed, not an official Parish Council report or a complete list of everything covered.

Would you be interested in setting up or being an admin of a new Facebook group for our village?

In November, the Parish Council will begin moving to a secure gov.uk address for its website and emails to protect data and meet legal responsibilities, and the “Upper Saxondale Community Hub” page will be renamed “Upper Saxondale Parish Council” focusing on council and parish news and activities.

So community posts such as asking for recommendations, reporting lost and found things, advertising free stuff, promoting local businesses and services, will need an alternative Facebook home. The suggestion is to setup a new Facebook group that followers can request to join, agree to a set of rules about membership and can then post for themselves, similar to Radcliffe’s Totem Pole Facebook group.

Would any village residents be interested in setting it up? Facebook Help Centre explains how to do this and what’s involved in being an admin such as setting rules, managing membership requests, monitoring post content to ensure they comply with its rules, and responding to DMs from members etc.

The new Facebook group won’t be run by the Parish Council but will be promoted from their page to help it get established. And during the transition period, residents’ posts will continue to be shared.

You might ask why the current community hub page can’t be converted to a group? Well, due to Facebook’s technical limitations that isn’t possible, hence the need to create something new for community posting so members can post for themselves.

National Highways will be carrying out maintenance work on the A52 between Bingham and Barrowby, to include drainage improvements, inspection of safety barriers, road sweeping and vegetation clearance/grass cutting.

They’ll work overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 26 October 2026 to Friday 6 November 2026. To keep their teams safe, will close the A52 between Bingham and Barrowby and work in phases:

26 October - 3 nights - Saxondale Roundabout to Grantham Road Whatton

29 October - 3 nights - Grantham Road Whatton to Grantham Road Bottesford

03 November - 4 nights - Grantham Road Bottesford to Barrowby

Laybys will be closed continuously from 1pm Monday 26 October to 6am Saturday 7 November between Bingham and Barrowby.

During closures, a fully signed diversion for both directions via the A46 and A1 in will be in place which has been agreed by the local authority.
