** Parish Council Events Team Planning Meeting Friday 29th May at 12noon in the village hall **

The Events Team are holding their next planning meeting with Councillor Phil Wigginton at the helm. There’s been a great response to the initial call for volunteers to help but there’s room for even more to be part of the team putting together an exciting programme of events for 2026/27.

If you’d like to be involved but can’t attend the Friday meeting, then contact Phil via text 07803 373108 or email [email protected].

And don’t forget this Friday it’s coffee morning 10:30am to 12:30pm so why not come along to the meeting a little earlier and treat yourself to a brew and cake.

Thank you!

MESSAGE FROM UPPER SAXONDALE PARISH COUNCIL

The current extreme weather may lead to branches falling from trees so please take care when walking in the parkland or near to trees elsewhere in the village.

FYI the Parish Council has recently had work done on trees around the village following a comprehensive professional tree survey. They will be contacting the Rushcliffe Borough Council Tree Officer to get any further thoughts.

Be aware of a large branch that's fallen from at least one tree on the parkland so please take care. The Parish Council are aware.

🌳UPDATE ***
Rushcliffe Borough Council have advised the Parish Council that they should seek professional advice from an arborist and depending on that advice either further discussion with RBC is needed or they could provide an exemption for work to proceed if the tree poses imminent risk of serious harm.

Sudden fallen branch 🌳
Just to alert residents that a very large branch has today suddenly come crashing down from the large beech tree in the parkland behind Whitehall Court at Upper Saxondale.
I understand there has also been another branch fall from a different tree nearby as well.

What is particularly concerning is that there was apparently no warning at all before the branch came down - no creaking or visible signs - and if anyone had been underneath at the time, the consequences could have been extremely serious.

Some of these trees now have very large overhanging branches above properties and areas where people walk in the parkland so please do take extra care when out walking.

I have reported this as a matter of urgency to Rushcliffe Borough Council’s tree lead and to Upper Saxondale Parish Council, requesting that this is looked into as soon as possible due to the potential public safety risk.

**BINS NOW FOUND, THANK YOU**

Has anyone ended up with extra green and blue bins after Saturday’s collection or spotted an abandoned pair? They’ve gone missing from Westminster Drive at turning into Shaftesbury by the garages that are set back. Thank you. 😁

Phew, what a scorcher🌞 but the Southside Volunteers were not phased and have planted the 150 remaining plug plants⚘️ in various locations in the woodland.
Thanks to Ethel, Jan and Mich for their help in the heat. Once the plugs grow there will be more colourful flowers🌼 for us all to see and the pollinators to enjoy, all native British wildflowers.
Craig and John kindly cut up and moved the remaining large willow branches. They then removed some wind damaged oak branches and put up some more bat boxes.
All in all a great effort. Thanks to all who helped. Until next time.

Monday is a bank holiday which means....our bin collection is this Saturday 23rd May for green and blue bins. Hopefully sufficient notice so we don't need to dash out early Saturday morning in our PJs to put out the bins! 😁
