🌟 Swimming Success for 1359 🏊🏻🏊🏽‍♀️ 🌟

Last weekend saw the cadets take part in the highly anticipated first wing event of the year!

Wing swimming offers our cadets a great chance to not only compete against other squadrons within our wing in healthy competition, but also allows them to improve their swimming skills and gain recognised proficiency within their individual swimming capability!

Overall 1359 (Beeston) squadron finished 4th, we are very proud of everyone that contributed to this, a fantastic show of teamwork and determination all around!

A big shout out to our junior boys team who finished 1st overall! The quest for Olympic gold in the future is well on the cards 😊

Another shout out goes to Cdt Puk, Cdt Green, Cdt Jones and Cdt Bassford, who after a fine display, made the wing swimming team and will compete against other wings in our region in a future competition!

WELL DONE ALL 🎉

🌟 WING FIELD DAY PREP FOR 1359 🌟

An action packed day today, full of Wing Field Day prep for those interesting in being involved in our teams for Wing Field Day or just interested in the subjects on offer!

Each year, 1359 (Beeston) Squadron puts on an open day full of planned activities and exercises centred around our Wing Field Day competitions, this allows everyone to come and take part in activities that they want to be a part of or are just interested in. Today, our cadets undertook various events and activities such as:

•Aviation (Flight Simulators and planning)
•Space (Building Bicarb Rockets)
•Cyber (Coding)
•Leadership (Leadership activities)
•Banner Drill

This activity open day is a tradition that 1359 (Beeston) Squadron are really proud of, as not only does it generate interest and excitement building up to Wing Field Day and picking the teams, but it also allows inclusivity to be at the forefront of everything we do!

Look out for more Wing Field Day posts to see what our cadets are getting up to, how they are improving their skills and the hard work they are putting in, not only on parade nights but also extra nights too!

🏹Archery Instructors Course Completion🏹

Last weekend saw CI McElhinney complete her Archery Instructors course at ran by !

This course included how to set up and set down the range, how to safely run an introductory Archery session and how to ensure safety on the range.

The course is aimed at adult volunteers within all cadet forces so that they can safely run these Archery courses at their local units. Running of these courses will allow additional activities to be undertaken that might not have previously been available, allowing our cadets to gain skills whilst having fun!

CI McElhinney said “it was a valuable experience that was very enjoyable and allows me to provide a great opportunity to benefit the squadron and also lets me develop my personal teaching skills, whilst also building relationships with other staff and squadrons within the region.”

We look forward to using CI McElhinneys new skills to offer great opportunities to our cadets and other cadet units in the surrounding area as part of inter-squadron Archery sessions.

🌟Passing out parade success for our first recruitment of 2026!!🌟

Thursday 22nd January saw our newest Junior Cadet intake complete their passing out parade and became enrolled as cadets at 1359 (Beeston) Squadron!

Watching on was a large gathering of the Junior Cadets family and friends who shared in the success of all their hard work whilst looking on proudly as they collected their certificates from Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Walley.

We also had the pleasure of having Wing Warrant Officer Crawford attend, of whom was once a Junior Cadet and cadet himself at 1359 (Beeston) Squadron, always a pleasure Sir!

As part of the recruitment, individual awards are decided on, this is a way of recognising those individuals who have excelled in certain areas, these awards were presented to the following:

Best Training - Presented to Cadet Brett
Best Foot Drill - Presented to Cadet Saville (by Wing Warrant Officer Crawford)
Best Overall - Presented to Cadet Tobota

Flight Lieutenant Walley also took the opportunity to hand out a variety of awards and badges to the rest of the squadron, some of which included Blue Wings, Bronze Space, Silver Cyber and even a couple Master Cadet badges! A massive congratulations to those cadets also and a lovely occasion to share in success alongside the newly passed out cadets!

Safe to say, everyone at 1359 (Beeston) Squadron was immensely proud of our Junior Cadets and look forward to seeing them develop as individuals during their time in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets!

Recently, we had the pleasure of the Children's Air Ambulance attending to talk to the cadets about the impact the Children's Air Ambulance has as well as what is required when they are called out.

Many thanks to Mike, a volunteer from the charity, for coming and talking to the cadets and the Children's Air Ambulance team for their support in making this talk happen.
