Over the last few months, the Council has been holding sessions to help its residents with the rising cost of living, with very successful feedback.

The Council will hold several more sessions, with the next happening at Nuneaton Market, on 23 November, 9am to 2pm.

Flooding to the stairwells of a limited number of blocks has been an ongoing challenge. Flood alleviation and defence measures are the responsibility of the Environment Agency, and we continue to work with, and press them, to identify and deliver a suitable solution.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has undertaken a significant amount of works to properties at Cleaver Gardens, both to improve the security and fabric of the buildings, and also to instigate measures that will mitigate the flooding that is experienced in the stairwells. This work is ongoing and additional flood defence measures will be fitted to all blocks where this is necessary. Further site visits are being undertaken this week to identify those blocks.

Councillor Chris Watkins, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities said:

“The Council has invested significantly in Cleaver Gardens, particularly over recent years. We have installed new security doors to all entrances, installed new doors and windows to flats, replaced the roofs, replaced the kitchens and bathrooms, provided scooter housing for residents and replaced all the paving around the blocks of flats with tarmac. Particularly in relation to flooding issues, whilst water has never yet got into any homes, we have installed new drainage and begun installing new flood defence measures to those blocks that experience flooding in the stairwells.

"The new defence barriers that have just been installed were ordered before the Global Pandemic COVID-19 which is why we have only just received them and we fitted these the very next day. We will continue to lobby the Environment Agency to provide a solution to the issues being experienced by the residents at Cleaver Gardens.”

We had a cold but productive lunchtime at Lydgate Court, Nuneaton!
We took over the main stairwell and were able to chat to residents as they went about their day.
Its always really interesting to talk to our tenants and find out exactly what it is like to live in our blocks.
