🌳 36 Hours of Hard Graft at the Avenue! 🌳

A massive shout-out to our 12 amazing volunteers who smashed a 3-hour working party this past Saturday! From planting to "poo-picking," here’s what Roger, Mary, Lesley, Adrian, Sue, Helen, Patrick, Jim, Stephen, Ian, Margaret, and Dave achieved:

🌱 New Life: 7 trees planted (including a generous donation from local farmer Geoff Hix).

🚧 Site Prep: New log edging in the car park and vital drainage checks to protect our roots from waterlogging.

🧹 Spring Clean: Brambles cleared, topiary trimmed, and "ankle trap" divots filled.

🎾 Lost & Found: Any stray tennis balls found are now in the doggy bucket by the entrance!

💩 A Tiny Request: Margaret & Mary did a heroic job clearing up dog mess, but there was a lot of it. Please remember, there’s no such thing as the Poo Fairy! Help us keep the Avenue beautiful (and our volunteers' boots clean) by bagging it and binning it.

💰 Support Us While You Sit: Spotted our benches lately? Thanks to Sue, they now feature QR codes! Scan one while you rest to donate via Gift Aid—it’s the easiest way to help us fund expert surveys and future planting.

🗓️ WE NEED YOU IN MAY!
We need friendly faces for 2-hour stints on Tuesday 19th May or Saturday 23rd May.

You’ll be helping us gather visitor insights to provide vital evidence for The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This data is the key to securing the Avenue’s future!

Whilst we have water at the front of Clipsham Yew Trees near the Gatehouse it’s great to see the work we have carried out during this winter is keeping the avenue dry.

The d***s are full but the walk is walkable !

When was the last time you saw it like this? Do let us know and if you have pictures please share!

Remember when the masters of the craft visited our Avenue? 🌳

If you’ve been following our journey, you’ll remember the incredible visit last year from two of the UK’s leading topiarists, Chris Poole (EBTS UK) and Darren Lerigo (Modern Mint). They spent time shaping some of our historic tree patterns and sharing their secrets during our training workshops.

We have some exciting news! Darren has recently written a book on his craft, and he has been kind enough to let us share a deeper look into his world with all of you.

🍂 Teamwork makes the dream work at Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue! 🍂

Yesterday marked our second volunteer working morning, and what a fantastic turnout we had! From 9:30 AM to noon, our dedicated crew was hard at work keeping the Avenue looking its best.

What we achieved:
✅ Leaf Clearing: Clearing the paths to keep the Avenue tidy.
✅ Carpark Upgrades: Out with the old, in with the new! We removed the aged carpark logs and fitted fresh ones.
✅ Poo Clearing: The "glamorous" but essential part of keeping our site clean for everyone.

A huge thank you to our "four-pawed wonders" who made sure the humans stayed on task! 🐶

We endured all had a well earned tea/coffee break and biscuit at 11:00 AM. ☕️🍪

We also had Scott Sullivan The National Lottery Heritage Fund mentor who come along to see what we were up to

We truly cannot do this invaluable work without our wonderful volunteers. Want to join the fun next time? Keep an eye on our page for future dates!
